The Outer Worlds and Fallout New Vegas developer Obsidian Entertaining is hiring for an unannounced RPG, new job listings confirm. The developer has a long history of making RPGs and fans will be excited to see the next idea that Obsidian can come up with.

Obsidian Entertainment is now listing 32 different jobs on its official site. The jobs range from full-time positions at its studios in Irvine, CA, to internships for those just getting started in the games industry. The jobs are also across a range of departments such as animation, art, audio, design, and programming. The positions also vary from team members to team leads. The roles that Obsidian is hiring for may be very different, but many of them are to "assist our growing team of RPG developers with world building, tools, pipeline, and performance on an unannounced project."

The new RPG may have multiplayer gameplay as roles such as gameplay programmer ask for the developer to have "multiplayer game development experience." The Outer Worlds didn't have multiplayer, which prompted some fans to play games like Borderlands 3 so that they could play together. Many fans would really like to see Obsidian's next RPG have some form of multiplayer gameplay.

The game may also be available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X, as the gameplay programmer job listing says "experience with cross-platform game development." Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox Series X won't have any exclusives for one or two years, so there's a good chance the game will be on both systems.

In November 2019, Obsidian confirmed that it is developing several RPGs. The company teased that it has more than one but less than 40 games in development and that some of these are big RPGs that could be compared to The Outer Worlds. It's unclear if these new jobs would be working on one or all of these RPGs.

It seems unlikely that fans will hear about these new Obsidian RPGs for a while. Obsidian is hiring for roles such as character animator and lead technical artists, and while a developer may make the game's gameplay features before its art, if the game doesn't have artwork, it probably isn't ready to be officially announced.

However, Obsidian will likely be revealing something at E3 2020. The developer has announced Grounded and confirmed it for a 2020 early-access release date, so it could potentially share a new trailer for that game.

The Outer Worlds is available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and will soon be available for Nintendo Switch.
