The Shivering Isles are one of the most imaginative and extraordinary places found in The Elder Scrolls. The Shivering Isles are not strictly a part of Tamriel, and instead are Sheogorath's plane of oblivion. As Sheogorath is the Daedric Prince of Madness, his lands reflect this and are split into two extremes: Mania and Dementia.

The denizens and creatures of the Shivering Isles reflect the madness of their Daedric Prince. The same creatures take on different characteristics, depending on where they're found. Some of these creatures are fiercer than any seen in Tamriel, and all are an experience to be remembered. Not all are friendly, while some are positively deadly.

10 Baliwog

Baliwog Shivering Isles

Baliwogs are perhaps the most benign of the creatures of the Shivering Isles, but that by no means implies they are harmless. Despite their small size, they are able to deliver a powerful attack that can inflict disease. Baliwogs live in water and can regenerate their health when submerged in water. While baliwogs are easily avoided by avoiding their watery territory, some carry pearls, which are useful for certain quests.

9 Scalon

Scalon Shivering Isles

Scalons are similar to baliwogs in that they are also amphibious and are similar in appearance, with the scalon's appearance being that of a large, upright baliwog.

With their greater size comes greater danger. Its size means it lumbers rather than runs, but its powerful legs are not there just for show. The scalon is capable of jumping great distances to their prey, and deliver crippling diseases in their blows. Finally, scalons are able to render themselves invisible. As scalons are dangerous at close distance, it is best to take them out from a distance with bows or magic.

8 Hunger

Hunger from Morrowind

Hunger are Daedra, previously seen in Morrowind. Despite their appearance in the Shivering Isles, they're actually daedric servants of the Daedric Prince Boethiah, the archnemesis of Molag Bal. As such, Hunger can be summoned by conjurors, but they can also be encountered in the wild. There are various types of Hunger that vary in strength. Encountered Hunger drop hunger tongue, while summoned Hunger do not drop anything.

7 Knights of Order

Jyggalag Shivering Isles

Knights of Order appear as humanoid figures donning silver armor. Despite being Daedra, they drop Hearts of Order rather than Daedra hearts. As they fight using swords as weapons, it's best to engage them from a distance.

6 Flesh Atronach

The Guardian Shivering Isles

Flesh atronachs are a new type of summoned creature and join the ranks of the fire and storm atronachs. Rather than embodying an element, they appear to be comprised of multiple body parts badly stitched together. They're covered in magical runes to animate them, and they all wear iron collars to signify their bound nature. Flesh atronachs are bound to an area to protect it, which they will do until they're defeated.

5 Gnarl

Skyrim Dawnguard Spriggan Earth Mother

Gnarls are tree-like creatures native to the Shivering Isles. As such, they can be found in both Mania and Dementia. They're very similar in appearance to the spriggans of Skyrim.

Gnarls use Silence as an opening attack, which makes magic-users vulnerable to their attacks. They are immune to Silence themselves. As tree-like creatures, they're particularly vulnerable to fire attacks. Gnarls can adapt their elemental resistances depending on what they were last attacked with.

4 Elytra

Elytra Shivering Isles

Elytra are insectoid creatures native to the Shivering Isles. Like all creatures of this plane of oblivion, they appear lighter or darker, depending on which section of the plane they exist. Elytra attack and dispense a deadly venom that can paralyze its victims. They're weak to fire and frost. As with other melee-type creatures, it's best to take down the elytra from a distance, removing the chance for them to use their venom.

3 The Gatekeeper

The Guardian Shivering Isles Gates

The Gatekeeper is a massive flesh atronach who guards the Gates of Madness. It was created from the bodies of those who failed to pass through the gates. The Guardian is several times bigger than a normal person, and is able to defeat numerous fighters at a time.

The Elder Scrolls 10 Types of Daedra Mazken Dark Seducers

Dark Seducers are the mystical guards of the realm of Dementia. They appear as tall, gray women in dark armor, but are actually a form of daedra. Dark Seducers are fiercely loyal to Sheogorath, and protect the city of Crucible and the city of Sheogorath. Dark Seducers are typically passive, and fulfill the role of guards in Dementia. If the player commits a crime, however, the Dark Seducers will hunt down and fight their enemy with ruthless efficiency.

1 Golden Saints

A golden saint daedra

First seen in Morrowind, Golden Saints are the Mania equivalent of the Dark Seducers. They exist in a constant state of competition with the Dark Seducers for Sheogorath's favor.

Golden Saints mostly appear as golden women, though there are a few men of their species. Like the Dark Seducers, they exist to protect the cities and settlements in Mania and New Sheoth and serve as the guards of the Shivering Isles. They approach their enemies with ruthless efficiency and are deadly to all who oppose them.
