Sung Kang, who came to fame through playing Han Seoul-Oh in The Fast and the Furious film franchise, shared new details on his mysterious Obi-Wan Kenobi character. The highly-anticipated Star Wars series for Disney Plus began filming in April and will premiere on the streaming platform next year.

Written by Army of the Dead’s Joby Harold, Obi-Wan Kenobi is set ten years after 2005’s Revenge of the Sith and before the events of A New Hope. Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor are reprising their iconic prequel roles alongside Star Wars newcomers Kumail Nanjiani, Rupert Friend, Benny Safdie, and O'Shea Jackson Jr. The six-episode limited series will explore the Jedi's time in exile on the desert planet Tatooine.

Though his character has yet to be revealed, Kang was able to share a new detail on the role. "I can tell you since I'm playing it, there is a sexual deliciousness to the character," said the actor to Tara Hitchcock. While the typically tight-lipped Disney has shared few details on the upcoming series, new set photos showed McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi. McGregor previously expressed his enthusiasm over the new project by stating that the idea of playing Obi-Wan is even more exciting than it was in the early 2000s.

Several Star Wars spin-off projects will be released on the streaming service between 2021-2023. The Rogue One prequel seriesAndor, will see Diego Luna reprise his role as Cassian Andor. The show was created by Tony Gilroy and will follow Andor’s formative year in the Rebellion. Meanwhile, The Book of Boba Fett wrapped production earlier this month. The Jon Favreau-produced series stars Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett and Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand. Fans will have to wait a bit longer for new episodes of The Mandalorian because Pedro Pascal recently confirmed that the third season hasn’t started filming yet. The second season earned rave reviews from critics and concluded with Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) stating that Din Djarin is the rightful owner of the Darksaber.

Kang will next be seen alongside Vin Diesel, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, and Charlize Theron in Justin Lin’s F9. The upcoming blockbuster is the sequel to 2017’s The Fate of the Furious and finished filming in 2019. WWE star John Cena is playing Jakob, a master thief who is also the brother to Dom and Mia. Kang’s Han originally appeared in Better Luck Tomorrow and notably died in Tokyo Drift. The newest F9 trailer shocked fans when it revealed that the beloved character is still alive.

Lin revealed that F9 will serve as the beginning of the final chapter and that the tenth and eleventh Fast and Furious entries will film as a two-part saga. By grossing nearly $6 billion at the global box office, Fast and Furious is one of the most profitable franchises in film history. The ninth installment in the main saga is slated to be released in theatres later this month.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is scheduled to be released on Disney Plus in 2022.
