While sitting down for a recent interview on The Graham Norton Show, Ewan McGregor finally spilled the beans on exactly when the highly anticipated series starring Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi will begin production. The still unnamed Star Wars project from Disney was announced in 2019, yet not many details are known about it, aside from McGregor being on board to reprise his role

Lucasfilm has given away very little about the plot points that will drive the show, but Disney’s initial statement did confirm that it would be set 8 years after the events seen in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, when Obi-Wan is last seen dropping off baby Luke Skywalker to his foster parents on Tatooine.

A very excited McGregor made clear that plans for the series are going well, by saying “we start shooting it in March next year”, which is more definitive than his previous statements, which simply pointed to "Spring" of next year.

Prior to the actor confirming this, information on the Kenobi series has been sparse, with fans limited to only knowing the general time frame when it takes place, as well as confirmation of Deborah Chow being the director and Joby Harold’s inclusion to its writing staff.

Riding on the critical success struck by The Mandalorian on Disney+, the prospects of an Obi-Wan Kenobi series are already looking much brighter than what Episode I and II could have hoped after The Phantom Menace. Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan was generally liked by fans, and having someone who knows her way around Star Wars like Deborah Chow only adds more to the show’s potential, and that’s all without accounting for the possibility of getting a glimpse at Darth Vader’s younger years.

The Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi series is set to start filming in March 2021.
