The demand for Nvidia’s new RTX 3000 series video cards is incredibly high, with many of the listings selling out in mere seconds or less. Nvidia has been struggling to keep and maintain stock at retailers, but apparently that is not the only problem the company is now facing. Reports have come in that Nvidia’s own online store has been leaking users’ email addresses and payment information.

The RTX 3080 went on sale last week and sold out so quickly, that Nvidia decided to manually review orders to cancel orders from bots that will be used to scalp cards. The entire situation was rather messy, leading to astronomical resale prices, and even some rather comical protests on eBay. Many are wondering if and when they will get another chance to pre-order these next-gen graphics cards before year’s end. But as it turns out, those who missed out may have dodged a potential bullet.

A post on Nvidia’s own subreddit revealed that a user saw someone else’s address and credit card information auto-filled when they went to check out. The poster was not alone, as multiple commenters confirmed they had the same experience, and the post garnered nearly 4,000 upvotes. Some suspect this may have had something to do with the bombardment of pre-order bots that descended upon Nvidia’s website for the 3000 series cards.

Nvidia Support quickly responded and escalated the issue and it appears to have been handled, as the problem no longer seems to occur when checking out. Thankfully the credit card numbers that were auto-filled were obfuscated by asterisks and hopefully no wrong doing comes of any addresses being leaked. This will just be another event Nvidia has to apologize for. Nvidia has yet to comment on the matter.

Nvidia is not alone though when it comes to pre-orders that have been botched. Pre-orders for Sony’s PlayStation 5 happened last week with similarly disastrous results, which Sony has since apologized for. The PS5 is also being scalped at high prices from resellers, but Sony has promised that more pre-orders will occur in the coming days and weeks.

Funnier still is Microsoft, which after touting a more organized and calm pre-order experience, ended up exactly the same as Sony and Nvidia. Both console makers have been rightfully memed to death for the mess that was pre-ordering both consoles. Microsoft will also be offering more Xbox Series S and X consoles in the near future, however.
