The rollout of Nvidia's RTX 30 Series of graphics cards has gone poorly, to say the least. Whether it was the dire launch that saw Nvidia's own website fail, the Best Buy partnership that hasn't slowed widespread scalping, or easily averted anti-mining limiters introduced mid-2021, Nvidia's decision-making has punished PC gaming enthusiasts most of all. Nvidia has no solutions at hand, unfortunately. What it does have, however, is a new line of RTX 40 Series graphics cards potentially arriving later this year.The speculation stems from recent Twitter messages shared by reliable industry analyst Greymon55. Greymon55 has been hyping the technology behind "Lovelace," Nvidia's assumed codename for the RTX 40 Series graphics cards, for some time. In a recent discussion about Lovelace, Greymon55 was asked when the graphics cards would "hit ground." Greymon55, perhaps surprisingly, responded by confirming that Nvidia's Lovelace RTX 40 Series graphics cards will "be available in September."Greymon55 has set expectations for the Lovelace range of GPUs very high so far. Asked how powerful they expect Lovelace to be, Greymon55 says they expect "2-2.5x 3090" in terms of performance, referring to what they believe will be RTX 40 Series counterpart to the RTX 3080, the RTX 4080. Going into further detail about the 4080 chip, which they refer to as the AD102, Greymon55 also tells their followers to start looking at a TGP of up to 850W. That extra performance will come at a hefty power cost.
It should be clarified that Greymon55 isn't reporting leaked information or rumors. They state that their tweets are just their own "thoughts and guesses" based on information that has been shared within the industry. It's just that they're very in-tune with GPU news and familiar with the industry to a degree that makes their thoughts worth acknowledging.
With that in mind, Greymon55 doesn't provide any further elaboration regarding why they believe Nvidia's RTX 40 Series graphics cards will begin to arrive in September. Another industry insider, Kopite7kimi, said in 2021 that they believed the RTX 40 Series cards would arrive in Q3 2022. They said at the time that it wasn't new information, either, so it seems like a poorly kept secret.
As for what graphics cards should be expected to be released in September, early predictions are that Nvidia won't deviate from the norm. The RTX 4070, 4080, and 4090 are the three cards that will most likely be released, mirroring the RTX 30 Series launch with the RTX 3070, 3080, and 3090. Whether PC gaming enthusiasts would be able to actually pick one up one of Nvidia's new cards without paying aftermarket prices from scalpers or crypo miners, expectations should probably be set low.
