The last year has been a big one for Nvidia, with the RTX 30 series of graphics cards being in particular high demand. The GeForce RTX 3080 has been especially difficult for consumers to get their hands on as Nvidia and retailers continue struggling to meet demands. That said, Nvidia does not appear to be slowing down and its newest graphics cards have been revealed courtesy of Samsung's newest gaming laptops.

Samsung's Notebook Odyssey line is the company's gaming-focused laptop lineup which has been available since 2019. Falling under the Samsung Odyssey gaming line of products, the Notebook Odyssey sports a slim design for portability coupled with high-powered processors and graphics cards for performance. The updated Notebook Odyssey laptops were officially announced during Samsung's Unpacked 2021, via The Verge, on April 28. Samsung's announcement doubled as a vehicle to offer a first look at the new Nvidia RTX 3050 and RTX 3050 Ti graphics cards, though details were still sparse.

Rumors were circulating for a few months before the Samsung event, but the RTX 3050 lineup appears to be the new line of budget-friendly graphics cards from Nvidia. The RTX 3050s will essentially serve as the replacement for the aging RTX 2060, which is currently the lowest model graphics card under the RTX brand. An alleged leak from March suggests the RTX 3050 Ti will sport 4GB of memory, though Nvidia has not confirmed if this was true.

On top of the RTX 3050s, the new Samsung Notebook Odyssey will feature a 1080p 15.6-inch screen, up to 32GB of RAM, up to a 2TB SSD for storage, a 135-watt charger, a 720p webcam, and either the Intel 11th Gen Core H i5 or i7 for a processor. Prices will start at $1,399 for the new laptop and will release sometime in August 2021.

One the one hand, Nvidia debuting its newest graphics cards in this manner should not come as much of a surprise. The company is widely seen as one of the biggest computer component manufacturers in the world, designing and selling parts focused on gaming, workplace, mobile, and automotive computing. It would make sense for Nvidia to partner with a consumer technology company as big as Samsung to double as the RTX 3050's unveiling.

However, a big question looming over the new cards is whether or not Nvidia will be able to keep up with demand. The demand for the RTX 30 lineup of cards has been high since it released in September of 2020. This can be partially attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic over the last year, which saw increased demand for other consumer tech products like new TVs, gaming consoles, and printers. The demand is reportedly causing a shortage of GPU chips which some manufacturers fear may last until 2023.

Nvidia may not have as high a demand for the new cards given they appear to be more budget friendly options and demand was greater for the RTX 3070 and 3080 cards, but that could change once the RTX 3050s are out in the wild.
