Although this week has already generated a lot of excitement for gamers thanks to the recent PS5 event and pre-orders going live, many have their sights on something bigger. Nvidia's GeForce 3080 graphics card is right around the corner and with it comes a new generational leap for PC gaming.

As revealed two weeks ago, the Nvidia GeForce 3080 will go on sale September 17, but the company did not say a specific time. Moreover, partners like EVGA, MSI, and GIGABYTE were keeping quiet about when they might sell the cards.

Luckily, some retailers have started spreading the word about GeForce 3080 sales and it sounds as though the graphics cards will go on sale at 6am PT. NewEgg, for example, put out a tweet telling its patrons to get ready for the rush to purchase the 3080, as the graphics card is expected to go fast.

Not all retailers will push their sales live at 6am PT, but it sounds as though that is when most are aiming to push the proverbial button. Gamers should still be vigilant as early as they can, because as soon as one retailer breaks the mold then most of them follow suit.

Just yesterday, Sony said that PS5 pre-orders would start on September 17 in the morning, but it wasn't long before every major retailer from Walmart to Gamestop pushed their pre-orders live. And like the 3080 are expected to be, the PS5 was a hot commodity and sold out very fast.

The Nvidia GeForce 3080 marks a major leap forward for graphics cards both in terms of power and value. While many will compare the performance of the 3080 to the 2080 TI, the card is actually meant to replace the 2080. Early benchmarks for the 3080 compared to the 2080 say that there is a 90% increase in performance, which is a major leap. And even comparing the 3080 to the 2080TI, there is around a 20-30% increase in performance, for about $400 less. It's why 2080 TI owners were so mad when Nvidia revealed the 3080.

Obviously, reviews and benchmarks are not going to paint a full picture because every build is different. But for many gamers, the jump to the 3000 series graphics cards is a no-brainer. Even the 3070, which is much cheaper, packs a significant amount of power and is only $500. That card, along with the ultra-powerful 3090 graphics card, won't be available until later.

The Nvidia GeForce 3080 is slated to go on sale at 6am PT.
