Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition has just hit the digital shelves, and while there are some contentions about the work that's been put into it, plenty of fans have been diving back into the world of GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas, reliving the glory days of PS2-esque gaming. With the GTA remasters also available on Xbox Game Pass, though on console and cloud gaming only, it's likely to pull in even more players, and to go with that, the new release has been given a boost thanks to some key Nvidia tech.

Since the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy was released, a new update has been rolling out which is said to improve performance by up to 85%. The update in question brings Nvidia's Deep Learning Super Sampling, or DLSS, to the titles. While it doesn't seem that the remasters will be getting ray-tracing capabilities, this upscaling boost should see a significant supercharge to the overall frame rate. However, according to a report, it should be noted that this vast improvement will depend on which GPU is currently in a user's system. It also needs to be pointed out that DLSS is only available for Nvidia RTX cards.

For those who are not aware, DLSS is an algorithm exclusive to Nvidia, although AMD has its own version and Intel is currently promoting a variant for its upcoming graphics cards, which helps improve performance and visual acuity. In simple terms, it achieves this by redrawing pixels on-screen to make it comparable to a much higher resolution, as though it was running said resolution natively. This is an important technology in modern gaming, with most AAA releases now being compatible with it. Nvidia said earlier in the year that more PC games would get the DLSS treatment, which now includes the GTA Trilogy.

Overall, this will be good news for fans who want that little extra juice in their copy of the remasters. While there have been a number of concerns about the new visuals in the GTA Trilogy, with some not caring for how the models look in the new iteration of the games, it's still nice to see the classics make it to current gen systems.

The GTA Remaster is one that is perhaps dividing the fan base a little. On the one hand, some are happy that the games are now playable in this modern era and have been given a lick of paint, whereas others feel that the work put into it is lacking somewhat and that the original games were fine as they are. In any case, it opens up the possibility of there being a remaster of Grand Theft Auto 4.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition is available now for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Android and iOS versions are scheduled for 2022.
