Universal Pictures unveiled the official trailer for Jordan Peele's newest offering Nope, the third horror film from the iconic director. Peele gained recognition after his solid directorial efforts with Get Out and Us, which garnered rhapsodized reviews and earned the director several award wins and nominations. Nope will make its theatrical premiere on July 22nd, starring Daniel Kaluuya, Steven Yeun, and Keke Palmer.

Nope is written and directed by Peele, who rose to directorial stardom in 2017 with his debut film Get Out. The project was a universal success and a box office sensation, accumulating $255.4 million worldwide. Peele earned Oscar recognition for the film, taking home the prize in the Best Original Screenplay category. In addition, the narrative earned nominations in the Best Picture and Best Director categories but unfortunately came up short. Peele's second endeavor, Us, did not generate the same buzz during the 2019 award season but performed well at the box office, earning $255 million worldwide.

Nope sees Peele huddled once more with Daniel Kaluuya, who took center stage as Chris Washington in Get Out. Kaluuya earned an Oscar nomination for his incredible performance but failed to take home the prize in the Best Actor category. Plot details for the film were kept tightly under wraps by Peele and Universal Pictures, providing only a cryptic poster and brief teaser to build excitement around the horror. Aside from a mysterious cloud and the cast of characters looking horrifically at the sky, audiences knew not much else about the social direction Peele would be taking. However, Steven Yeun and Keke Palmer surfaced as new additions to the Jordan Peele universe.

The trailer does a solid job building anticipation for the mystery, introducing Kaluuya and Palmer as the only Black-owned horse training ranch in Hollywood. Eventually, things turn dark once the lights around their establishment begin to fade, as the appearance of something ominous creeps into view. The true identity of the mystery is still relatively hidden, but audiences witness a quick glimpse of the foreboding cloud recognizable from the film's only poster. "What's a bad miracle? We got a word for that?" states Kaluuya's character within the footage, highlighting the arrival of something menacing to the planet. The trailer plants a seed of assumptions that audiences will have to nurture with theories until its July release.

Nope went into production last year in Southern California and will become the newest film from the director's Monkeypaw production company. Peele launched Monkeypaw in 2012 and has seen the company accumulate incredible success during its exclusive partnership with Universal Pictures. Aside from his directorial efforts, Peele's company has assisted other projects with their release, most recently Nia DaCosta's Candyman, which became the first film from a Black female director ever to premiere atop the domestic box office. In addition, Monkeypaw and Universal recently acquired the rights to Nikyatu Jusu's next endeavor, a horror film based on an original idea from the Nanny director.

Jordan Peele's newest film will make its long-awaited appearance in theaters soon, greeted by audiences eager to dive into the director's social commentary. The cryptic mystery behind the narrative has slightly revealed itself, but it'll be interesting to see how things fully play out once the entire offering arrives in July. Peele is teaming up with renowned cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema, who previously worked with Christopher Nolan on Interstellar, Dunkirk, and Tenet. As evident within the trailer, Hoytema looks to add an enhanced visionary element to the film, which will make the horror impossible to ignore.

Nope will hit theaters July 22, 2022.
