Nintendo recently released its financial results briefing for fiscal year ending March 2020. During the briefing, Shuntaro Furukawa, President of Nintendo, confirmed that the company has no plans to launch a new Nintendo Switch model in 2020.

Contrary to many recent rumors that Nintendo was working on an upgraded Switch to go head to head against the Xbox series X and PS5, Nintendo is choosing, for now, to stick with the standard Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite. Furukawa stated that the company wants to continue to communicate the appeal of those two models and expand on the installed base. Nintendo is choosing transparency, instead of keeping the fanbase guessing.

Furukawa continues by discussing the newly announced Animal Crossing special edition Nintendo Switch, which will launch in March. So while new Switch models will not be releasing in 2020, more special edition Nintendo Switches, perhaps in the form of base model Nintendo Switches and Nintendo Switch Lites, are most likely on the way.

Although there will be no new Nintendo Switch in 2020, that doesn't mean that there will be no new Nintendo Switch at all moving forward. With a plethora of Nintendo Switch Pro rumors circulating the internet, and the next generation of Xbox and PlayStation consoles about to lap the Nintendo Switch in terms of power, it wouldn't be a surprise if Nintendo eventually released an upgraded Switch to compete. Perhaps the plan is for the day one Nintendo Switch to be phased out eventually. The two models can one day be the Nintendo Switch Pro and the Nintendo Switch Lite, a sustainable business approach and something many fans would love.

Other interesting details of the financial results briefing included adding more content in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, small info about the Nintendo store in Tokyo, how 15 million members have accounts with Nintendo Online, as well as massively impressive sales reports like Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield.

Nintendo, of the current big three, has lasted through multiple generations of gaming in awe-inspiring ways. Through multiple decades it has outlasted many opponents, won console wars, overcome missteps, and created some of the greatest games to have ever been played, which in turn has created wonderful memories for fans. Thanks to Nintendo's sound leadership, creativity, and innovation, the company usually does the right thing. Many Nintendo fans would like a Nintendo Switch Pro in 2020, but trusting Nintendo, especially based on its recent success, is also a pretty good bet.
