Set to release in August, No More Heroes 3 will return to Suda51's comical world of assassins, lightsabers, and crass toilet humor, seeing Travis Touchdown return to battle a new type of foe. This time around, the eccentric assassins Touchdown typically faces off against have been replaced by an army of powerful aliens, with the character having to prevent his extraterrestrial foes from taking over the planet.

The new story will come loaded with references to Travis' previous adventures, as characters from his past are forced to unite to put a stop to their dangerous new invaders. It means that players new to the franchise could get a little lost, especially as most of Travis' allies have history with the Beam-Katana-wielding hero. Luckily, Nintendo's got them covered, with a new trailer catching them up on everything they need to know to get stuck into the newest addition to the franchise.

As expected, the footage breaks the fourth wall, comes loaded with fun gags, and refrains from taking itself too seriously, detailing the first two mainline entries in the franchise as well as the more recent spin-off, Travis Strikes Again. It also summarizes some of the more prominent supporting characters set to crop up in No More Heroes 3including series staple Shinobu Jacobs and antagonist-turned-ally Bad Girl.

The trailer is framed to resemble a series of YouTube videos, complete with mid-roll ads for Travis Strikes Again and a manufacturing company called Grasshopper (which is an evident nod to the studio behind the game, Grasshopper Manufacture). The videos themselves are hosted by No More Heroes mainstay Sylvia Christel, who quickly recaps both of Travis' journeys to the top of the United Assassin's Association's rankings through No More Heroes 1 and 2. She also glosses over the events of Travis Strikes Again, even making a joke about the game's middling review scores.

Finally, Slyvia reaches the events of No More Heroes 3, teasing what to expect from the next iteration of the franchise. According to her, "what was once a fight between assassins is now a battle to the death on a galactic scale." The trailer teases some of the high-octane fights players will be able to look forward to when they hop into the sequel, showing Travis suplexing soldiers, shooting asteroids in a giant mech, and using his beam katana to cleave aliens in two. It's shaping up to be another wacky take on the world of No More Heroes and a worthy follow-up to its cult-classic predecessors.

No More Heroes 3 is slated to release on August 28 for Nintendo Switch.
