No More Heroes 3 was one of the most exciting announcements to come from Nintendo’s E3 Direct last year. The surprise announcement came after creator Goichi “Suda51” Suda teased it briefly before the show and during the ending of Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes. Now, almost a full year later, we finally have our first look at the upcoming Nintendo Switch exclusive.

Suda51 fans will know that the cult classic game designer of titles such as The Silver Case, Killer7, and Lollipop Chainsaw is no stranger to referencing his favorite pieces of nerd media in his work, with No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle going so far as to feature a cameo from famed Japanese action and horror movie director Takashi Miike, and Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes featuring a plethora of indie game collaborations. Well this time Suda has done it again, teasing the impending gameplay reveal of No More Heroes 3 with a face Rick and Morty fans will instantly recognize.

The teaser, which includes a screenshot from the game, features series protagonist Travis Touchdown standing outside of his apartment complex from the previous titles (now featuring a sign that reads "No More Heroes") Obscuring our view of the game however, is fan-favorite Rick and Morty character Mr. Meeseeks, or rather an action figure of him, as the tweet reads "I'm Mr. Meeseeks! Look at meee!"

This image alludes to our first look at No More Heroes 3's Santa Destroy, as the game promises to return to the open-world approach from the first game. Two of the doors outside of Travis' apartment complex feature glowing red circles beneath them, implying that the player will be able to enter them, and beside them Travis' Schpeltiger motorcycle can vaguely be seen, as it will most likely be the player's main mode of transportation throughout the game.

Finally, behind Travis's apartment complex we can see what appears to be a floating alien fortress, which will likely play a major role in No More Heroes 3, as the game's The Game Awards 2019 animated trailer revealed that the game will center around an alien invasion of earth led by a group known as the "Galactic Superheroes," forcing Travis Touchdown to return from his retirement as the top ranked assassin in the world to defeat them. Voice actor Quinton Flynn also confirmed via Twitter that Travis' brother, Henry Cooldown, will make an appearance in the game.

While No More Heroes 3 is set to release in 2020, many fans are skeptical given developer Grasshopper Manufacturer's silence and the difficulties of game development during the COVID-19 pandemic, however the developer is set to appear at the upcoming New Game Plus Expo on June 23rd, so it is likely we will see some sort of gameplay reveal and update on No More Heroes 3 in just a few short weeks.

No More Heroes 3 will release in 2020, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
