The No More Heroes games were fairly popular on the Wii due to their unique sense of humor and over-the-top action. Despite this, the games weren't exactly huge sales successes, and like many other Grasshopper Manufacture games, were relatively niche. Considering this, it was a big surprise No More Heroes 3 was announced for the Nintendo Switch at E3 2019, and now fans know exactly when they will get to play the long-awaited game.

Nintendo debuted a brand new No More Heroes 3 trailer during its February 17, 2021 Nintendo Direct presentation that confirmed the game's August 27 release date. The trailer also featured some fresh No More Heroes 3 gameplay and story details, showing how players will fight against an alien invasion and save the world.

No More Heroes 3 gameplay looks very similar to the first two games in the series. As Travis Touchdown, players take out enemies with their beam katana, including some impressively-designed and unique bosses. But in typical No More Heroes fashion, Travis can't simply go from one boss fight to the next. Instead players have to buy entry to each battle using money earned by completing everyday tasks like mowing the lawn and other odd-jobs.

The No More Heroes 3 gameplay shown in the Nintendo Direct seems to be some of the gameplay that developer Suda51 has been blocking with his head, so it's good to finally see it in action. Some of the boss fights on display are definitely creative, with one that looks to be replicating first-person survival-horror games and another that looks like an old-school turn-based JRPG.

To fight these bosses, No More Heroes 3 protagonist Travis Touchdown will have a variety of tools at his disposal. This new trailer confirmed that Touchdown will be able to use a "new and improved" Death Glove that gives him access to unique abilities. Players will be able to upgrade the Death Gloves and Travis' other skills through the game's leveling system, which should give players an edge in the boss fights.

Despite the Nintendo Direct supposedly focusing on Switch games coming in the first half of 2021, the No More Heroes 3 release date isn't until much later in the year. Fans of the franchise may be disappointed that they have to wait so long to play the new game, but they can still get their No More Heroes fix on the Switch in the meantime. Both No More Heroes 1 and 2 are on Switch, so fans can relive those games to help pass the time while they wait for No More Heroes 3.

No More Heroes 3 launches August 27, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
