It's been almost 10 years since everyone's favorite loser assassin Travis Touchdown stepped into the garden of madness in No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle. Since then, the character went on a nearly nine-year long hiatus before returning in the indie game love letter Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes, which teased the impending announcement of No More Heroes 3. Since then, fans have had to wait almost two years for the game without seeing much gameplay, and while that still hasn't changed, Grasshopper Manufacture has revealed more footage of No More Heroes 3 today.

No More Heroes first released for the Nintendo Wii in Japan in 2007, with the game arriving in Europe and North America in 2008. The game was a major success and propelled the western popularity of game director Goichi "Suda51" Suda. The game was later followed by No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle, which also released on Nintendo Wii in 2010. A remaster of the original game released on PlayStation 3 under the name No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise in the same year. After the release of Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes in 2019, a third No More Heroes game was announced at Nintendo's E3 2019 Direct.

The new footage of No More Heroes 3 comes from a live stream hosted by series publisher Marvelous which included series creator Goichi "Suda51" Suda, and revealed the opening cutscene, as well as some gameplay footage for the upcoming Switch title. While not much new footage was shown, almost the entire opening cutscene for the game was revealed, which includes returning characters Shinobu and Bad Girl fighting along Travis. Better yet, the English version of this cutscene is the version that was streamed. A small amount of gameplay footage was included in the stream, but most of the gameplay discussion was supplemented with screenshots.

After a year of trolling fans by interrupting footage of the game at gaming events, Suda51 finally revealed No More Heroes 3 gameplay at the Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase last October, where it was revealed that the original two titles would also be released for Nintendo Switch and the third game would be delayed into 2021. In February of this year, a gameplay trailer revealed that No More Heroes 3 will release on August 28th 2021, exclusively on Nintendo Switch.

No More Heroes 3 marks a return to the gameplay styles of the original game, featuring an open-world city of Santa Destroy for Travis to explore, while completing odd jobs to earn money to compete in assassination events. The game features Travis Touchdown taking down an alien superhero group that is invading Earth. No More Heroes 3 features action gameplay similar to the original two titles while also including some genre-bending mini-games and bosses similar to Suda51's other work.

No More Heroes 3 will release on August 28, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
