When fans are waiting on a new game, one of the biggest sources of entertainment and excitement is picking apart trailers in search of hidden clues. Although some people might think fans occasionally read too much into trailers this way, it often does turn out that game developers have filled the trailers with Easter eggs and clues. No More Heroes 3 is one game that's all abuzz with speculation right now. This long awaited continuation of the No More Heroes franchise is coming out pretty soon, but there's still lots of details about its plot that haven't come forward yet. For instance, who was Travis fighting at the end of one of its biggest trailers?

No More Heroes 3 made waves when it was revealed because it's deviating from the usual plot. In the first two games, Travis Touchdown was pitted against human assassins in his attempt to climb to the top of the United Assassins Association's rankings. In No More Heroes 3, it's up to Travis Touchdown to protect the Earth from an alien menace, led by a callous alien prince bent on dominating the planet. Naturally, lots of fights with huge and bizarre aliens have been teased. However, there's one obscure clip of Travis fighting a human with green light around them. Fans are demanding to know who this "Emerald Guy" is, and there's already a few theories afoot.

Henry Cooldown

No More Heroes true ending

This on again, off again rival of Travis' is one of No More Heroes' recurring supporting characters. Henry Cooldown first entered the franchise as an enemy to Travis, but ended up being a great help to him in No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle. It's confirmed that Henry will return in No More Heroes 3, thanks in part to the fact that his voice actor is known to be reprising his role. The question is what Henry's role in the game will be. Some fans are speculating that he's the "Emerald Guy" Travis fights.

Henry and Travis generally left off on good terms in No More Heroes 2. However, in the recent Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes, Henry actually threatened Travis once more at the head of a mysterious organization called the Order of the Emerald Night. Travis Strikes Again didn't reveal why exactly Henry is after Travis. However, Henry's erratic behavior seems to indicate that he isn't in his right mind. It could be that some other threat has brainwashed him or taken him over, and is pitting him against Travis. The Order's association with emeralds would certainly support Travis having a green hue while fighting Travis.

Fans have been able to break down the Emerald Guy's appearance in the trailer, and it does sound a lot like Henry. The Emerald Guy is wearing the same clothes and sunglasses that Henry wore in Travis Strikes Again. Plus, it looks like Travis and the Emerald Guy are fighting in front of Motel "NO MORE HEROES," the same place that Travis and Henry fought at the end of the first No More Heroes game. Odds seem good that the Emerald Guy is Henry, whether Henry wants to be fighting Travis or not.

Travis' Son Hunter

Since it's not confirmed that the Emerald Guy is Henry, other possibilities can't totally be discounted for now. Some fans are also theorizing that the Emerald Guy is Hunter, the son Travis had with his former agent and love interest Sylvia Christel. Hunter was teased in Travis Strikes Again, but has yet to make a proper appearance. Grasshopper Manufacture CEO Goichi Suda, better known as Suda51, once changed his profile picture on Twitter to an unidentified character that looked a lot like a young Travis without sunglasses. Fans are predicting that this was concept art for Hunter, and that he'll probably appear in No More Heroes 3.

Some fans think it's possible that he'll turn against his father in the new game. Although potential Hunter's role is a mystery for now, it's not too likely that he's the Emerald Guy. Hunter is only about nine years old at the time of No More Heroes 3, so unless he was somehow artificially aged up, he couldn't possibly be as tall as his father. Of course, No More Heroes is riddled with sci-fi tropes and fantastical technology, so anything is possible. Fans are dying to know what human could possibly be getting in Travis' way during an alien invasion, so hopefully Grasshopper Manufacture will make a reveal soon.

No More Heroes 3 will release in 2021 for Nintendo Switch.
