The No More Heroes franchise may not have as much excitement behind it as it did during the Wii generation, but it's trying to get back there. The forthcoming release of No More Heroes 3, the Nintendo Switch-exclusive sequel bringing back Travis Touchdown is set to bring back that initial energy. In No More Heroes 3's latest trailer, the nine alien "superheroes" that make up the game's line-up of villains are showcased, showcasing the game's over-the-top creativity for a new generation of players.

Like with previous No More Heroes games, Travis Touchdown is an assassin for hire. To deal with No More Heroes 3's new villains he's been tasked with climbing the Galactic Superhero Rankings and in the process defeat an enemy named Jess Baptiste VI, also known as FU, and his group of nefarious aliens. The aliens plan to take over the Earth with the help of a super-corporation named Utopinia and their CEO, Damon Ricotello.

The new trailer for No More Heroes introduces many of these Galactic Superhero fiends that make up FU's group. Names mentioned in the trailer include Gold Joe, alien kidnapper Black Night Direction, memory stealer Vanishing Point, Velvet Chair Girl, and rank 5, the dark world princess Midori Midorikawa. Beyond them, there's also the "Big Four" which doesn't even include the #1 ranked Galactic Superhero Jess Baptiste VI themself. Travis Touchdown has his work cut out for himself.

As for the final 30 seconds of the trailer, they're spent giving an impression of just how powerful the Galactic Superheroes are. Their powers include lasers that can destroy miles of countryside, or transforming countless people into pink mush. Needless to say, No More Heroes 3 will be escalating its action to a level above that of the previous games in the No More Heroes franchise. They still all look like awkward Power Rangers villains, though.

One other thing that the trailer teases, but doesn't get in-depth about, is its mix of animated visuals. While the bulk of No More Heroes 3's visuals are typical CG, perhaps intentionally made to look somewhat retro and aged, the animation looks cutting edge and impressive. Velvet Chair Girl's intro is one example of the animation, but it's actually used throughout the trailer in interesting ways.

Fans both new and old will be able to check out No More Heroes 3 in less than a month. It's only a matter of weeks before players will be able to compare the sequel to the cult hits that came before. Hopefully, it lives up to the No More Heroes franchise's reputation.

No More Heroes 3 releases August 27 on Switch.
