When No Man's Sky was first revealed to gamers four years ago, most assumed that Xbox One fans would be left out in the cold. Only seeing a release on PS4 and PC, the game was seen as Sony using the significant hype around the game to bring more console players to the system. Despite this, rumors of a release on Microsoft's signature console never ceased and now it seems there was some truth behind them after all.

Announced today by developer Hello Games, No Man's Sky will be released this summer on the Xbox One and will be enhanced for the Xbox One X with 4K and HDR support. Xbox players will get all expansions for the game, including the Foundation, Pathfinder, and Atlas Rises updates as well as the new free update also coming in the summer called NEXT.

Though details are limited regarding what the NEXT update will include, Hello Games co-founder Sean Murray has stated that the update will be based on player feedback. "We called this update NEXT, because it’s an important next step on a longer journey for us and the community,” Murray said “We’ve been working our socks off on this and it’s by far our biggest update so far. It will be free to existing players, and we’ll continue to support No Man’s Sky in this way for the foreseeable future.”

Its fairly common knowledge by now that No Man's Sky has had a pretty rough road since its launch back in 2016. After the huge pre-release hype, the game failed to meet the expectations of many gamers, who felt that Hello Games didn't deliver on what was promised. The reaction from players was so bad that many major retailers began offering refunds to those disappointed by the game.

With all that said, 2017 has seen things looking up for No Man's Sky and Hello Games. After several updates, particularly the recent Atlas Rises, many players have expressed their surprise with how far the game has come along with regards to look and content. The launch of the games multiplayer mode has also been seen a step in the right direction.

The point is that all of this recent positive buzz around the game's improvements are a good sign of whats to come. With the game launching on Xbox, it's sure to see a major influx of new players and Hello Games will be looking to make a good impression. Whatever the NEXT update does end up entailing it's sure to bring more big changes to the constantly evolving game, let's just hope that Murray and the team keep moving in the right direction.

No Man’s Sky is now available for PlayStation 4 and PC, and will be available on Xbox One this summer
