No Man's Sky was released on August 9, 2016 with a fair bit of criticism for lack of promised features, but the game is also known for making one of the biggest comebacks in the industry's history. Since then, No Man's Sky has consistently received chunky DLC updates that added exciting content for freeNo Man's Sky also saw a massive surge of support from fans due to the consumer-friendly approach that the developers took when supporting the post-launch content.

The No Man's Sky/Mass Effect crossover will add the legendary SSV Normandy SR1 from Mass Effect, but players will need to participate in a limited-time event to obtain the ship. The event will go on until May 31, and the update will add a series of expeditions mission content as well. The Normandy also includes a brilliant S rating, which is the best ranking in the game. For the players that add it to their fleet, they'll be able to keep it for good even after the limited-time crossover is over.

Mass Effect may not canonically exist within the lore of No Man's Sky, but this is still an enjoyable addition to the game. As it so happens, crossovers are slowly becoming a staple in the industry, with games like Fortnite partaking in crossovers with Marvel and DC. This also brings in the question of whether fans can expect further crossovers in the future for No Man's Sky. After all, franchises like Star Wars or Star Trek would make perfect sense for the game as they fit the tone and genre.

This week has been especially exciting for No Man's Sky after it was announced that the game's virtual reality mode on PC will be among the first VR games ever to support Nvidia's Deep Learning Super-Sampling (DLSS). All this comes to show that Hello Games has continued to make a vigorous effort to repair and strengthen the game's reputation. At the 2020 Game Awards, No Man's Sky received a respectable victory in taking the Best Ongoing Game award. This August marks the five-year anniversary of No Man's Sky, but developer Hello Games already started celebrating when releasing the new Companions update, and now, this crossover is something that fans never would've expected but is a welcome update.

No Man's Sky is available right now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
