The NEXT update for No Man's Sky has proven to be a major success. Hello Game's once maligned game about exploring space and gathering resources has manage to expand its community with this addition, and it appears its developer isn't planning on stopping there. This week, Hello Games detailed the first season of weekly content coming to No Man's Sky, and it sounds interesting at the very least.

Starting today, players who've completed the first Space Anomaly mission will be given the option to investigate a new parallel universe discovered by Specialist Polo and Priest Entity Nada. This previously unknown version of the universe is teeming with new sights to see and possibly even fauna to document. There have already been plenty of incredible discoveries made in No Man's Sky, and this represents a chance to possibly find something even better.

Still, even finding a completely natural Sean Murray monument would only be so satisfying without a proper reward. The odd alien duo have plenty to offer those who take on the challenge though. Explorers who return with any number of the strange objects said to be appearing underground in this previously unknown world will be reward with Quicksilver, a new currency being introduced to the game. With Quicksilver in hand, players can head over to the new vendor and use it to purchase any of several new exotic collectibles in the form of emotes, base pieces, and gear. There are only eleven collectibles available at the moment, but that will expand to more than fifty over the coming weeks.

No Man's Sky has come a long way since its launch in 2016. It's gone from being the poster child for the dangers of hype culture and misleading marketing to finding new life in the wake of several major updates. It's renewed success is enough to even outsell GTA V on Steam for a short time. For a game most had written-off as a lost cause, that's pretty good. Now that Hello Games has a not unsubstantial fan base for No Man's Sky, they're in the perfect position to make it even better; something they should easily be able to do if these planned community events wind up being as interesting as they sound.

No Man's Sky is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
