Indie development studio Hello Games announces that its forthcoming adventure title, No Man's Sky, has a $150 Explorer's Edition set for its PC version.

Now that the eagerly anticipated No Man's Sky finally has a release date, developer Hello Games has decided its ambitious space exploration and survival title deserves a high-priced special version, and the company is partnering with online retailer iam8bit to distribute them. Dubbed the Explorer's Edition and only available for the PC port, the No Man's Sky package will be available as a limited edition run of 10,000 units in both North America and Europe upon launch, and is available for pre-order right now for $150.

Those who put their money down for No Man's Sky's Explorer's Edition will not only receive a digital download of the game for Steam or GOG, but they will also get a cast metal ship replica, which is hand-painted, and comes with an assortment of different decals for customization. Plus, the package includes a hard-enamel pin, a backdrop with a diorama for the ship's display, as well as a "mystery item" with a $10 value that will be revealed once the game officially becomes available.

Although some might balk at the price tag, iam8bit points out the individual components of the No Man's Sky Explorer's Edition total up to be $210 as separate entities, so there are some savings to be had in purchasing the bundle. Plus, fans should definitely take note that Hello Games' $150 offering is far from being listed among the most expensive video game special editions, so when compared to something like Saints Row 4's Million Dollar Edition, the No Man's Sky's collector bundle is chump change.

Considering the numerous delays No Man's Sky has encountered since its reveal at the Spike VGX a couple of years ago, though, it begs the question whether or not the game is still registering clearly enough on fans' radars to warrant them dishing out such a large portion of dough for the Explorer's Edition rather than simply opting for the base model. Of course, many gamers consider No Man's Sky to be one of the most anticipated video games of 2016, so the $150 package's existence is somewhat justified, but typically, special bundles such as the Explorer's Edition are offered for more established franchises with brand recognition.

Nevertheless, there will surely be plenty of fans who want to order No Man's Sky's Explorer's Edition, for not only is it being touted as one of the most unique titles in years, but its game size is also leading people to wonder if it's quite literally the biggest release ever made. At any rate, with a limited edition run of only 10,000 units, the Explorer's Edition will probably sell out fast.

What do you think about Hello Games' and iam8bit's $150 Explorer's Edition for No Man's Sky? Do you believe all of the content in the package is worth the price, or will you be sticking with the standard version once it releases? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

No Man's Sky is set to release in North America for PC and PlayStation 4 on June 21, 2016, with its availability for UK audiences being June 24, 2016.
