During an AMA on Reddit, No Man's Sky developer Sean Murray revealed to fans that the Hello Games team has already started development on their next game.

For Hello Games, Tuesday marks an important day for their future. After years of dedicated development and marketing, Hello Games is finally releasing their highly anticipated space exploration title No Man’s Sky. Having only a single mobile game under their belt prior to No Man’s Sky’s release, it’ll be interesting to see how the game is accepted among both critics and gamers.

In preparation for the big day, Hello Games co-founder and managing director Sean Murray took to Reddit to answer some questions from excited fans. During an AMA (Ask Me Anything), Murray shared his feelings about the game and his excitement and anxiety over the release. He also shared an interesting bit of information about developer Hello Games: the team is already working on their next game. Murray said:

"There are other ideas we've got rattling around in our heads too," he said. "I think video games is just such a largely unexplored field. There's very few studios that pull off the two game thing, but supporting one game and then kicking off something new--that's doable right?”

After hinting at the thought of the Hello Games team already working on something new, the developer went on to spill the beans that the next game is, in fact, already in development:

"I just remembered, we've got another thing we're already working on that's unannounced. It's a small experiment, but hopefully you all might like it. Maybe we can be the Johnny Depp of studios--do a mixture of big stuff and indie stuff?"

It’s quite surprising that a developer would be teasing a new game on the eve of such a big launch. However, considering the amount of excitement Murray and his team are feeling right now over the release of No Man’s Sky, it’s hard to blame him for letting that excitement spill into their next project.

Fortunately for Murray, he held off sharing any specific details about the next game, so gamers are left to their own imaginations, and to focus on No Man’s Sky. But based on the few statements Murray made, including his desire to be the “Johnny Depp of studios,” gamers can expect the next Hello Games title to be far different than No Man’s Sky or Joe Danger. And having already covered mobile and console gaming, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Hello Games tackle virtual reality next.

Of course, there’s still plenty to do with No Man’s Sky, and gamers have yet to see if the space exploration game lives up to the hype.

What do you think about Murray’s musings on Hello Games’ next title?

No Man’s Sky is set to release on August 9th for PS4 and August 12th for PC.
