Hello Games has just detailed the latest major update for the 2016 title, No Man’s Sky, which will take players to the depths of the ocean and will be available today. The expansion called The Abyss will focus on expanding the underwater gameplay in No Man’s Sky, as players will be given a diverse set of marine environments to explore.

Aside from the expanded underwater gameplay, Hello Games will also introduce a unique roster of creatures that will inhabit the game’s underwater environments. “Underwater creatures have become more frequent, and more interesting,” Hello Games revealed. “Aquatic life inhabits the full depth of the ocean, and unique terrifying creatures can be encountered on the ocean floor.”

Moreover, players will be able to explore more wrecks and discover a submarine called the Nautilon, which will aid players in navigating underwater safely. Hello Games is also adding more options for building underwater bases, which will include glass corridors and viewing bays so that players can get an uninterrupted view of the deep ocean.

A new storyline called The Dreams of the Deep will also be included in the latest update, which “brings a new context” to the overall narrative of No Man’s Sky. The launch of the game’s most recent expansion today couldn’t have come at a better time, as the terrifying monsters that players will encounter under the sea will surely bring a creepy vibe to the game, which is fitting as Halloween is just around the corner.

During its initial release, No Man’s Sky was met with mixed reviews as some players felt disappointed after the final product did not meet expectations. However, Hello Games has been tirelessly improving the game by listening to player feedback and introducing constant updates. Just last month, Hello Games introduced an update that allowed players to craft and ride motorbikes.

Although No Man’s Sky was released back in 2016, the game has seen a revival especially after the launch of the NEXT update that overhauled the game for more engaging and diverse gameplay. NEXT also brought a real multiplayer experience that now allows players to explore the game's universe with friends and embark on new missions together. With all these significant updates introduced in the game and The Abyss on the way, maybe now is the perfect time to give No Man’s Sky another try.

No Man’s Sky is available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
