Team Ninja's samurai action role-playing game Nioh will be getting its second paid DLC expansion very soon. Defiant Honor will launch July 25th and will cost $9.99 / £9.99. Defiant Honor will feature a winter siege upon one of Japan's most famous historical landmarks, Osaka Castle.

Details on the expansion come from the creative director of Nioh, Tom Lee, in a post on the PlayStation Blog, where Osaka Castle is described as "the largest and most impregnable castle of the Senjoku era." Protagonist William, along with Date Masamune and Tokugawa's forces, will take on the Toyotomi clan and its legendary warrior Sanada Yukimura.

To help players take the castle, the DLC will adding a new Tonfa weapon, new armor and magic items, as well as new guardian spirits. This means a whole new arsenal to get used to. Fortunately, there will be plenty of brand new Yokai to practice on.

Additionally, there will be new trophies and difficulty levels available. The blog doesn't specify whether the new difficulties will make the game harder or easier. Some might be hoping for the latter, as Nioh is notoriously difficult. It even made our list of the top 10 hardest video games of all time. Defiant Honor also promises new action-packed stages and plenty of sub-missions.

Team Ninja has been hard at work creating new content for Nioh since its launch in February. Nioh already has one expansion under its belt with Dragon of the North, which released a couple months back. It added the traditional Japanese odachi sword, along with a variety of new armor, magic, and areas to explore. The DLC also launched alongside new PvP content, which was included for free.

That isn't the first thing Team Ninja has generously given to its Nioh player base gratis. When the game broke the one million unit marker in sales, the company issued free Golden Armor to its players as a thank you.

Nioh is available now for PlayStation 4. The Defiant Honor expansion will release July 25, 2017.
