The development of Nioh 2 is progressing nicely. Team Ninja is even confident enough with the state of the game that it's announcing the action RPG's open beta release date. Sony's official PlayStation Twitter account made the announcement Sunday afternoon. Nioh 2 will be holding an open beta starting November 1 and ending on November 10. The open will be exclusive to the PlayStation 4 and free to all PS4 owners to download. Details about the open beta's content will be released in the weeks to come.

The original Nioh also had an open beta, as well as a free alpha. If the Nioh 2 beta is anything like the original game's it should offer a robust range of content to play. Nioh's beta included several stages, several weapons, and also unlocked free content for the full game upon its release. At the time, fans especially liked the dojo stage that allowed new players to go through a difficult training regiment. Watchful fans should hope that Nioh 2's beta will be similarly expansive and helpful.

Team Ninja also took a broad range of feedback during the original Nioh's beta and made significant changes based on player feedback. Nioh's producer Fumihiko Yasuda even went on to say that this intense feedback gathering was a significant part of team's pre-launch "demo strategy." They'd go on to explain that having players see how they  influenced the game would hopefully "result in players being more supporting of the game."

This strategy worked exceptionally well. Nioh went from a little known game to a surprise hit in early 2017, largely due to word of mouth. Nioh went on to sell over 2.5 million copies worldwide. And now Nioh 2 looks to build off the original Nioh's success. Oddly enough, it looks like Nioh 2 will have to take a similar path. Despite the original game's success, there's surprisingly little hype for the sequel. Nioh 2 will be using an open beta and word of mouth to hopefully boost its numbers, as well.

Despite a planned launch window of early 2020 and a now announced open beta, relatively little is known about Nioh 2. The sequel's protagonist will be a customized character, unlike the original game. The new protagonist will also have a range of new abilities, including being able to turn into a demon themselves. It's also known that Nioh 2 will be a prequel, though it's unclear if that's just a portion of Nioh 2 or the entire game. Nioh 2 player should still expect to see some familiar faces.

Expect more information regarding Nioh 2 in the months leading up the game's November open beta.

Nioh 2 is planned for release in early 2020 on PlayStation 4.
