The Nintendo Switch Joy-Con makes up a large part of what makes the Switch such an interesting concept in the world of gaming. By simply sliding them onto the side of the Switch from the dock can turn this capable home console into a portable gaming device and it's a concept that works exactly as advertised by Nintendo.

The Nintendo Switch Joy-Con have motion sensors and HD rumble, and while these features aren't used in every Switch game, it's neat to have all of that power in a tiny controller. However, there are Nintendo fans out there that have been finding new and unique ways to make use of these controllers, and one person, in particular, has even found a way to turn them into a photography tool.

A Reddit user that goes by Byotan posted to the Nintendo Switch subreddit over the weekend to show off yet another feature of the Joy-Con that most Switch owners probably don't know about. The short clip shows Byotan holding a red Joy-Con in their right hand and then pressing the A button to snap photos of a Pikachu figure by connecting the controller to their smartphone. Byotan apparently figured out how to pair a Joy-Con with their phone using Bluetooth and use it to take pictures without needing to press anything on the phone itself.

Interestingly enough, the Reddit post was put on Reddit on the same day of the launch of New Pokemon Snap for the Nintendo Switch. The current top comment underneath the Reddit post states: "Pokemon snap: expert mode," obviously referring to the newly released Pokemon photography game. It seems that Boytan might've wanted to play a little Pokemon Snap but in IRL.

By using a Joy-Con in this way, people can easily set up a group shot without someone needing to physically hold the camera. Of course, most smartphones have timed countdowns for hand-free picture taking, but having the power to take a picture with the freedom of a click definitely comes in handy.

This also isn't the first time that fans have used the Switch Joy-Con in an interesting manner. One Switch owner created a program that made it so the Joy-Con can vibrate to the tune of any .midi song file from their computer. Of course, the Nintendo fan showed off the project by using the iconic Super Mario theme song.

The Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite are available at retailers now.
