The Nintendo Switch continues to be a massive success. Many believe that it is the Nintendo Switch that will dominate the holiday this year, not the brand new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. If that is true, Nintendo will likely need to let the Switch to continue to evolve and grow, and that looks to be the case with its newest update.

Nintendo of America just announced via a tweet and some patch notes that the newest system update for the Switch has arrived. Including a trending section on the friends list, the ability to automatically download backed up save data on the cloud, and more, players can now more easily transfer saved photos and videos wirelessly to their smartphones.

Once the system update is installed, when players view any of their images and videos they should see an option marked "Send to Smartphone." If this is clicked, a QR Code appears. Players can then use the camera and or QR Code app to scan the code to make it appear as an image/video in the gallery of the phone. This makes it easier than ever to save and then share those clutch moments in Splatoon 2, hilarious clips in Super Mario Maker 2, or epic trick shots in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

The Nintendo Switch has now sold over 70 million units, a remarkable amount in less than 4 years. Along with some amazing games to play on the hybrid console, the functionality, snappiness, and features of the console have helped give it life. Updates like this from Nintendo are a sign that the company is continuing to think about user-friendly features for its console.

As great as the update is, however, it still isn't quite as intuitive as the Xbox share button on the Xbox Series X/S controller. With that functionality, players can instantly send the images over to their phone via an app as soon as the picture is taken or the video is recorded. This takes out the extra step of the QR Code. Both ideas work very well though, and simply having those moments on a mobile device within seconds is exciting.

Thanks to the new sharing feature on the Nintendo Switch, and some amazing games on the Switch that are worth sharing about, it is possible that the community sees an uptick in screenshots and videos of great Nintendo Switch moments. Whether it be an image of finally capturing the rare Coelacanth in Animal Crossing: New Horizons or a video of a massive combo in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, there are endless opportunities for great moments.
