Spyro fans have plenty to be excited about right now. The Spyro: Reignited Trilogy remaster will be coming to the Nintendo Switch shortly, and if that weren't enough, one more thing is joining the list for fans of the '90s platformer to be excited over. The Nintendo Switch is getting an exclusive Spyro wireless controller in advance of the game's release.

The new controller is developed by PowerA and is officially licensed by both Nintendo and Activision. The controller uses AA batteries with a suggested 30 hours of battery life, and features remappable buttons, Bluetooth connectivity, and motion controls. The controller does lack the ability to work with Amiibo and doesn't rumble, however. The new controller is set to release on August 31st, and is currently available for pre-order at $49.99, making it a bit less expensive than a standard Switch Pro Controller.

This is just the latest in a wide range of novelty controllers that the Nintendo Switch has received since its inception. One such example is the NES Classic controller, which is specifically designed to play games from the Switch Online NES catalog, and closely mirrors the resemblance of an original Nintendo Entertainment System controller. There have also been a number of nostalgic Gamecube-styled controllers released that are specifically intended to be used with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

While Spyro hasn't made an appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, he is nonetheless getting around on the Nintendo Switch. Spyro is slated to join the playable character crew of Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled Remaster as free post-launch DLC. The overall continued interest in both the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro series has gotten the attention of Activision, too. The developer has revealed that it's considering returning to classic IPs, so it's not out of the question that Spyro could see a full-fledged reboot or sequel in the near future.

Spyro: Reignited Trilogy will release on September 3rd for the Nintendo Switch. The Spyro controller will launch August 31st.
