Nintendo Switch Sports is here. Considered an upgrade to the nostalgic and innovative Wii console, it brings an initial collection of six games. Although it lacks some fan favorites from the Wii, games like tennis and bowling make a comeback while games like soccer, volleyball, badminton, and chambara make their debuts.

The games are even better with the inclusion of online modes pushing players to compete with other switch sports games outside the walls of their homes. It can be hard to pick up one straight out of the box and get going. Maybe there exists a way to try them out one by one...

6 Soccer

Soccer can be played on a single-player or even with a four-on-four all battling to kick a giant ball over the opponent's head into the goal post. One cannot help but compare the game to Rocket League. Replace the vehicular mayhem with Nintendo avatars, and fans have soccer!

The game does not kick off on the first list to play with on the new bundle, but it does grow on the players who want to have a good football game. Using both the joycons and the exclusive leg strap mode for those who would like to have a good leg day and the game is simple fun even when played alone.

5 Volleyball

What makes these Nintendo games so enjoyable is their ability to keep the player mindful of things to do and whatever it takes to win a certain point. Volleyball in the Nintendo Switch Sports takes it up a bit and makes the players realize that playing the game in real life would be more rewarding than playing it on the console.

The game takes more than a while to get used to, especially the handling and operating of the joycons in line with its schematics, and that takes away the “easy to jump into” when you bring home new friends. Timing is the essence here and the game sure likes to show off that you aren't good at it.

4 Badminton

Badminton is pretty basic and easy to work out. The joy-con is your racket, and the buttons are very much the difference between the drop, smash, and serves. One can challenge the AI in a single-player game or raise the stakes with your buddy.

The game does not quite bring anything new apart from its overall look and feel, but it is something that would help a newcomer get set into the world of VR gaming on the Switch console. However, timing your shots to utmost perfection and making your opponent trip on the court is quite fun.

3 Tennis

There is a reason why this comes just after badminton is on the list. The game carries similar schematics as badminton, but the nostalgic factor of playing tennis on a console setup such as the Nintendo Switch Sports gives it a better rank than the earlier ones.

In other words, tennis can be played with four players (either as 2P versus the AI or as the 4P(s) split between by the net) but has the relatively same experience as badminton. Tennis on the Wii was a huge success and marketed as such, only second to bowling, and the game on the Switch Sports is guaranteed to give players the same experience.

2 Chambara

If one feels disappointed that boxing is left out of the game roster, a sword fighting game, chambara, takes its place to mend grieving hearts. The game is a two-player PvP where the players take to a circular battleground aloft a pool of bright blue estuary.

Fans would already know where this is heading by now. The objective is to sword fight the opposition and knock them right off the ring into the pool of water down below. With three different sword types to send opponents off the edge, this game is the best yet.

1 Bowling

Nintendo Switch Sports Bowling

What is not broke shall need no change. Bowling in the Nintendo Switch Sports is probably the game that sticks with utmost loyalty to its original from the Wii. A slight upgrade in the visual treatment and support for simultaneous play allows up to four players to play the game without having to wait for turns.

The special lane mode in the game makes it more interesting with obstacles and ramps. Getting creative with one's friends is definitely part of the appeal here! The game also features an online mode where players can now compete with as many as 50+ random online global entrants in a full-fledged bowling tournament.

With a combination of the earlier mentioned simultaneous mode, players have the experience of being in a busy bowling alley right in their home. Bowling has brought in the old classic vibe of its predecessors and adapted well to the modern Switch elements, making it the favorite amongst the rest.
