The fake Nintendo leaks are starting to get out of control. Last year was an odd year for Nintendo, but 2020 was still a good year for the Switch. Still, the moment 2021 rolled around (and even the weeks leading up to it) the rumors started flooding in about a new Nintendo Direct. This always seems to be the case, as fans of The Big N are often thirsty for new information about upcoming video games, new hardware, and more.

This time, however, the Nintendo Switch Pro and Nintendo Direct have been trending on Twitter simply thanks to fans poking fun at all of the pseudo-leaks about a possible new Nintendo console.

Just a few weeks ago, another prototype Nintendo Switch leak made its way onto the internet. At this rate, there have to be dozens, if not hundreds, of images floating around that leakers and dataminers claim to be real. This is leading individuals, like @OhNeeks on Twitter, to post pictures of the failed Ouya console and pretend that it is the "confirmed" Nintendo Switch Pro. Twitter has been flooded with comical images like this.

@Taysty_Taylor uploaded a similarly fake Nintendo Switch Pro, this one just a redo of the Wii U. For years after the launch of the Wii, fans were looking for a Wii HD, and in some ways, they got it with the Wii U. But it came later than expected, and by then fans were more looking for a whole new console. For many, a Switch Pro seems inevitable, but that was also the case with the Wii HD, so the Nintendo Switch Pro may not be as likely as it seems.

A reminder as well--for all the oddball looking prototypes that show up online that the internet often calls out immediately--Nintendo often creates very slick and simplistic looking consoles. This is part of the reason why the community likes to post memes about insane fake Nintendo Switch Pro consoles, or even cake.

Perhaps the best tweet--beyond the silly memes or even the cake--are the ones that simply dissect all aspects of the fake leaks. One Twitter user named @molalitea thought it was quite remarkable that Nintendo would finally reveal the long-awaited Nintendo Switch Pro, announce Mario Kart 9, Splatoon 3, Mario Odyssey 2, show off Metroid Prime 4, give more details on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, and announce multiple 3rd party AAA games coming to Switch Pro all in one single Nintendo Direct in a January date that has not yet been announced. That would certainly make the list of the biggest gaming surprises of the year.

The fake Nintendo Switch Pro consoles and the fiery takes are what fuel a lot of fans, which is why some people love to jump online as soon as they see something like this trending on Twitter. For now, Nintendo is neither confirming nor denying the existence of a Nintendo Switch Pro, but the community is at least having fun and entertaining with it.
