The Nintendo Switch has been out for four years now, quickly become one of the best-selling gaming platforms on the market. But for some time now, there has been talk of the Switch's successor, the tentatively fan-titled Switch Pro. Despite the persistent rumors, confirmation of the Switch Pro's existence is yet to arrive, but according to recent rumors, this could be set to change imminently.

With E3 fast approaching, many Nintendo fans speculated that the Switch Pro could be first revealed here, during the Nintendo E3 conference. There has been a serious uptick in rumors surrounding the unconfirmed console in recent months, adding credence to the idea of an E3 reveal between now and then. So, here's every Switch Pro rumor before the console's potential reveal this month.

The Switch Pro Will Not Be Revealed At E3

Nintendo has confirmed that its E3 conference will focus exclusively on games set to release in 2021. However, according to rumors, this is because the Switch Pro will be announced on June 3. Obviously, thus far, this has not been the case. The same rumors suggest pre-orders will be available from around midnight June 4, with a Holiday 2021 timeframe set as the release date, so fans hoping to secure a day-one system should get ready for a late night. There has been no confirmation of a conference or surprise, leaving the circumstances of the Switch Pro's rumored reveal up in the air. Still, many think that if it doesn't happen today, it'll happen before E3. It seems strange to focus exclusively on games at E3 considering its close proximity to the announcement of the Switch Pro, but this could be for a good reason.

The announcement of the Switch Pro could inform the direction of the Nintendo E3 conference. If the Switch Pro is to release later this year, Switch Pro launch titles would have to be revealed at E3, and with Nintendo's game-focused conference, it seems as though this will likely be the case. Many have tipped a Legend of Zelda title to be released alongside the Switch Pro as a launch title, although there are rumors floating around suggesting BOTW 2 will not be released this year, which would exempt it from being a launch title. This really only leaves the rumored Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD bundle, which is also reportedly set to release on the original Switch this year.

There have also been links regarding the price of the Nintendo Switch Pro, including one recently from a retailer. Notably, this is usually consistent and sees the Pro priced around $399. Given the price tag of the Switch and the Switch Lite, this makes a lot of sense.

What Is The Switch Pro?

Nintendo Switch Pro Thinking

In the lead-up to the Switch Pro's rumored reveal, there have been plenty of rumors to give fans an idea of what exactly the console will look and perform like. In terms of aesthetics, the Switch Pro is rumored to be the same size as the existing Nintendo Switch, however, a reduced bezel allows for a 7-inch Samsung OLED Display, an upgrade from the Switch's 6.2-inch display. While an upgrade on the existing Switch kickstand is reportedly also in the offing, with the Switch Pro's kickstand resembling more so that of the Surface Pro's. Both the screen size and the kickstand of the original Switch were problematic features for fans, so these upgrades will no doubt go down a treat.

In terms of the power of the Switch Pro, the rumors make it sound like a significant upgrade on the original. For starters, The Switch Pro is rumored to make use of Nvidia's DLSS technology, which can improve the performance of video games, both boosting frame rates, and sharpening images. This is perhaps in part how the Switch Pro is rumored to fall in line with the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X in terms of performance, with 4K resolution and 60 frames per second likely. This would be a huge upgrade on the original Switch, and would reportedly bring with it a heftier price tag.

This level of performance will be achieved in docked mode rather than handheld, similar to the upgrade in performance with the current Switch console when played docked. However, it seems the Switch Pro will still offer a considerable upgrade in graphical fidelity both in docked and handheld mode due to the upgraded hardware. The rumors paint an impressive picture of the Switch Pro; however, with all of them unconfirmed, fans will have to wait and see what Nintendo has in store.
