Sometime in the near future, Nintendo is adding new SNES and NES games to the collection already available for Nintendo Switch online subscribers. Most notable the handful of games being added to the service are SNES classics Super Punch-Out!Kirby Super Star, and the previous SNES mini exclusive Star Fox 2. There will be six new games in total.

When Nintendo unveiled their Nintendo Switch Online service, one of the promises was access to a vast library of classic Nintendo games. The addition SNES games and continual growth of that library is one of the biggest ways Switch Online has improved since its launch. This is the first time new games have been added since Nintendo dumped the 20 SNES games on the platform.

The SNES games coming to Nintendo Switch Online, at a currently unannounced date and time, are Star Fox 2 Super Punch-Out!!Kirby Super Star, and Breath of Fire 2. Two new NES games are also coming to the service, sci-fi action game Journey to Silius and action RPG Crystalis. The most interesting release on this list has got to be Star Fox 2.

The lost SNES game was released for the first time and until this announcement was only available for people with a SNES Classic console. At the time of development, the game was abandoned in order to focus on Star Fox 64. This slightly unfinished game was included with the SNES classic that was released in 2017. Now, it will be available for Switch owners who subscribe to Nintendo's service. However, it still remains impossible to buy a copy of Star Fox 2 from any Nintendo digital store.

The other SNES games included are much needed additions. Super Punch-Out!! doesn't have quite the legacy that the original game does, but its a worthy successor that has many of the same strengths. Kirby Super Star is one of the best Kirby games of all time. In fact, it's 8 of the best Kirby games in one game. All three of these games are included on the SNES Classic.

The inclusion of Breath of Fire 2, Journey to Silius, and Crystalis is maybe even more important than the above games. They may not be as popular, but having more obscure games readily available is important. Having a robust library of old games in its digital library will prevent Nintendo fans from needed to turn to emulators and ROMS, the kind that Nintendo are especially litigious about.
