At its last Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo announced a new Nintendo Switch Online pricing tier called the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack. For a higher price, Nintendo Switch Online users can upgrade their membership to the Expansion Pack tier and get access to additional perks, like Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis games. At the time, Nintendo didn't reveal some important details about the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion pack, like how much it costs and when it will be available, but those questions have now been answered.

As part of the Animal Crossing Nintendo Direct event, Nintendo confirmed that the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack will launch on October 25. Individual memberships will cost $49.99 for 12 months, while family plans will cost $79.99 for 12 months. A prorated discount will be available to current Nintendo Switch Online subscribers that upgrade to the Switch Online Expansion Pack. Besides the previously revealed perks, Nintendo also revealed a bonus that's coming with the Switch Online Expansion Pack.

Starting November 5, the Animal Crossing: Happy Home Paradise DLC will be made free to all Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack subscribers. Those that are only interested in the DLC and don't want to sign up for the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion pack will have to buy it for $24.99, so for some Switch users it will likely make more sense to just sign up for the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack.

Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack N64 Games List

  • Dr. Mario 64
  • Mario Kart 64
  • Mario Tennis
  • Sin & Punishment
  • Star Fox 64
  • Super Mario 64
  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
  • WinBack: Covert Operations
  • Yoshi's Story

The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack is getting its Nintendo 64 lineup started with nine games to start, all of which will have some new functionality not found in the original releases. For example, like other Nintendo Switch Online games, these Nintendo 64 games will allow players to save whenever they want. The games will also look better and perform smoother than they did in the 90s, not to mention there will be online multiplayer support as well.

Nintendo has also confirmed some other Nintendo 64 games that will be coming to the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack, though they won't be available when the service launches on October 25. At some point down the line, Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack subscribers can look forward to the addition of Banjo-Kazooie, F-Zero X, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, Mario Golf, Paper Mario, Pokemon Snap, and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.

Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack will launch with Sega Genesis games, too, so it does seem like Nintendo is trying hard to offer fans significant value for the pricier subscription. Whether or not Switch users think the retro games and Animal Crossing paid DLC are worth it remains to be seen, however.
