The Nintendo Switch Online Plus Expansion Pack went live on October 25, allowing upgrading subscribers to have access to a select number of classic Nintendo 64 and SEGA Genesis titles. Unfortunately, subscribers are reporting numerous issues with the games provided, making for an underwhelming launch with plenty of fans disappointed with Nintendo.

There is currently a multitude of issues with the service across many of its games, making it hard to nail down what Nintendo should be tackling first to fix. The major problems players are citing are things like low frame rates, input lag, sound effect delay, and texture problems to name just a few. What's more, the Nintendo Switch Online Plus Expansion Pack doesn't allow players to re-map the default button layout for the controller.

This presents a huge issue for many reasons as the Nintendo 64's controller didn't have a traditional button layout so the one provided for its titles doesn't make a whole lot of sense. For starters, the "A" and "B" buttons are flipped when mapped to the Joy-Cons and the yellow "C" buttons are halfway mapped to the "X" and "Y" face buttons while the rest require the player to hold down another button to use them. This wouldn't be such a big problem if Nintendo simply allowed players to remap the buttons themselves so that they can figure out what layout works best for them, but no such option is available at this time.

According to a thread on ResetEra, many fans are disappointed with the Expansion Pack but some aren't entirely surprised. While many aren't surprised by the Expansion Pack's poor performance, there was some hope before it was released that Nintendo was putting in a lot of work to make the Switch the definitive place to play some of its older titles based on the controversially high price of the expansion, but that clearly isn't the case.

Despite only being available for several hours, many upgrading Switch Online subscribers are already voicing their regret for purchasing the expansion and asking Nintendo to fix the product. Unfortunately, there isn't much history of the company providing major updates on its online services, but it seems like the general consensus on the Expansion Pack is negative, so, if the outcry is loud enough, Nintendo might address the controversy.
