With just a few days on the market after initially being unveiled back in July, fans have started to get their hands on the new Nintendo Switch OLED. Some fans that have acquired their Switch upgrade have begun to notice that the new model comes with a protector screen, something that wasn’t included with previous Switch models.
Although not the long-rumored Nintendo Switch Pro that many fans were anticipating, the upgrades included in the Nintendo Switch OLED were enough for many fans to purchase it. The upgrade that stands out the most with the new Switch model is the 7-inch OLED screen. Unlike the regular Nintendo Switch model that has a plastic screen, the OLED screen is glass.
As a result of the glass screen, Nintendo decided to include an “anti-scattering adhesive film” with the Switch OLED model in case the screen was to break. If the Nintendo Switch OLED screen was to break, the anti-scattering film would protect the user from shattered glass. Although it's impossible to prevent the screen from breaking at all, the anti-scattering film will at least prevent scratches on the Switch OLED.
Nintendo has confirmed that the anti-scattering adhesive film should not be removed. For those that are interested in adding another piece of protection on top of the anti-scattering film, it should be noted that Nintendo sells OLED Model screen protectors that fit on the new hardware. At the moment the price for this first-party screen protector is $20, but it also includes a carrying case for the console.
As some fans have stated, the anti-scattering adhesive film is difficult to see. It isn’t meant to be some bubbly presence that ticks away at the user’s attention as they enjoy their Switch OLED. With the Nintendo Switch and its mobility, it’s expected that the console will end up taking a fall or two. This is especially true when considering the younger audience that the various Switch exclusives games can appeal to. The addition of the anti-scattering film is an expected feature when considering the glass screen and hopefully does its job when the time comes.
For those still playing on their regular Nintendo Switch waiting for the long-rumored Nintendo Switch Pro to be announced, they can probably just keep the protector screen in mind. Chancs are that if a Nintendo Switch Pro is announced, the console will also include a glass screen with an anti-scattering adhesive film on top.
