The Nintendo Switch's incredible success has come hand in hand with the success of independently developed games available on the platform. "Nindies" including Shovel Knight, Stardew Valley, Overcooked, and Celeste are proving why many independent developers are prioritizing Switch development over even PS4 and PC. And Nintendo's returning the favor. Today Nintendo announced the Nindies Showcase for Spring 2018, a Direct-like event just for Nindies.

The Nindies Showcase Spring 2018 will officially air on March 20, starting at 9:00 am PT, Nintendo revealed earlier today on Twitter. Much like Nintendo Directs, the Nindies Showcase will be a lengthy pre-recorded video in a faux-livestream format. Unlike Nintendo Directs though, the Nindies Showcase will be directed by Nintendo of America since indie games are quite often region-specific.

The most recent previous Nindies Showcase was for Summer 2017, during which Nintendo introduced 20 different games for its recently launched console. The Nindies Showcase prior to that featured over 60 games. Excited fans should expect a deluge of both fresh announcements and updates for previously revealed titles.

As for what Nintendo Switch owners can expect during the Nindies Showcase, previously announced games include Little Nightmares: Complete Edition and Runner 3, both planned for May. Super Meat Boy Forever and Kentucky Route Zero: TV Edition could both receive release dates. And more info on ports like Hollow Knight has been a long time coming.

In fact, it's more than reasonable to expect that most of the games shown during next week's Nindies Showcase are previously announced titles. This event is specifically for Spring 2018, meaning it'll focus on titles that will likely launch in the next few months. While that may limit what will be shown, Nintendo's laxness on the definition of a Nindie means that surprises are certain to be in store.

Tune into the Nintendo Switch Nindies Showcase on March 20 at 9:00 am PT, over on Nintendo's official website.
