The Gamecube controller is the one design fans have yet to abandon completely. It has been popping back up in some form with every Nintendo console, and the Switch is no exception. With Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on the horizon, new Gamecube controllers are already set to release in time for the title, both from accessory manufacturer HORI and Nintendo itself. In the spirit of reviving the popular controller once more, one fan thought about how Switch Joy-Cons might look with a Gamecube makeover, and then made it a reality.

A member of BitBuilt, a website dedicated to console modders, combined these two Nintendo controllers, resulting in very cool themed Joy-Cons you'll wish were available in stores.

Madmorda, the mind behind the mashup, created the controllers by laser etching and resin casting the face buttons. The joystick caps were actually pulled right from the Gamecube controller, which explains why they look a touch less polished. Madmorda even notes in her post that the silicon on the left joystick fit perfectly, but the c stick needs some adjustments. None of the design was painted.

All in all, it's a nice modification, and surely something many fans wish they had for their Switch. Those interested in more information, such as how it was all put together, can head to BitBuilt, where Madmorda has posted detailed pictures and even a video.

In other Nintendo news, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is on everyone's minds after a Nintendo Direct presentation recently aired that was dedicated to the fighting game. In it, a flood of new information on the title was disclosed to audiences, including a few new playable characters.

The most exciting portion by far was the reveal that Simon Belmont is joining the fray, one of the most requested characters in Super Smash Bros. history. Konami has been doing diddly squat with the beloved Castlevania franchise, so why not let Nintendo make use of all those wonderful, creepy characters.

Aside from Simon, Ritcher Belmont will also be joining the roster as an echo fighter and Alucard will appear as an assist trophy. Dracula's Castle will become a unique stage, spawning various bosses from the Castlevania series to wreak havoc on fighters. Even Dracula himself will occasionally make a rare appearance.

After Simon and the other fighters were introduced during the Nintendo Direct, that put the roster at around 70, an impressive number of characters indeed. However, Nintendo isn't quite done just yet. The game doesn't release until December, so there is plenty of time to introduce even more. In fact, even game director Masahiro Sakurai confirmed that there were a few more characters to reveal.

Who these fighters will be is anyone's guess, as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is already including every fighter from past entries, as well as several of the most requested characters from fans. Nintendo is fulfilling so many wishes that there aren't really any left. At this point, audiences can just kick back, leave expectations at the door, and let themselves be surprised.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will launch on December 7, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
