Nintendo hosted a Nintendo Direct today, just days before the release of its new console to show off 17 new indie titles coming to the Nintendo Switch. The presentation, titled the "Nindies Showcase" adds to the more than 70 titles from indie studios promised to come to the Switch.

Indie titles have grown to be a big part of the game lineup on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and whereas not many indie devs found a place on Nintendo's past consoles, Nintendo looks to be renewing its focus in getting independent developers on the Switch. Nintendo's Damon Baker hosted the Nintendo Direct, and said "It's our mission to prioritize unique and original experiences and curate an amazing lineup of content that will feel perfectly at home on Nintendo Switch."

SteamWorld Dig 2

The showcase started off with the announcement of SteamWorld Dig 2. The game is a sequel to the original game, which launched in 2013 on the Nintendo 3DS, but has since made its way to PC, PS4, Vita, Xbox One, and Wii U. It is a side-scrolling platformer with exploration concepts, akin to a Metroid-style game. SteamWorld Dig 2 launches on the Switch this summer.

Yooka-Laylee, Overcooked, & The Escapists 2

While developer Team17 also showed off a new trailer detailing its N64-inspired platformer's snow world, it was also confirmed during the Nintendo Direct that the Yooka-Laylee will also be out on the Nintendo Switch. It is expected to be released on April 11 alongside the game's release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

In addition to Yooka-Laylee, Team17 is also bringing the couch co-op arcade style cooking game, Overcooked, to the Switch. The game will be a special edition, which will contain all the DLC and content created for the game, which released last summer on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.

Team17 will also bring The Escapists 2 to the Switch, a top-down game that tasks players with setting up the perfect escape from prison. The game will feature drop-in, drop-out co-op for up to 4-players.

GoNNER, Dandara & Kingdom: Two Crowns

GoNNER is described as a procedurally roguelike platformer from studio Art in Heart and publisher Raw Fury. While GoNNER is currently available on Steam, the the game will be a timed exclusive on Nintendo Switch, and the console will get special content created specifically for the Switch.

Publisher Raw Fury will also bring another game to the Switch, known as Dandara from developer Long Hat House. It's another Metroidvania-style 2D action platformer, and will launch this summer with special functionality for the Switch, including HD Rumble.

Raw Fury has one more title coming to the Switch, which is Kingdom: Two Crowns. Players take on the role of a king who must make hard choices for his kingdom, taking care of his people while also weighing the prospects (and threats) of exploring the wilderness. A new co-op mode was shown for the first time during the Nintendo Direct.

Runner 3

Runner 3 is a quirky side-scrolling platformer and the third entry in the BIT.TRIP RUNNER series from developer Choice Provisions. Runner 3 will debut this fall, exclusively on Nintendo Switch.

Blaster Master Zero

Blaster Master Zero is a return to its roots. The game is a sequel to a classic NES game that put players behind a weapon-touting vehicle in side-scrolling sections, combined with top-down on-foot shooting sections. The game, developed by Inti Creates, launches shortly after the Switch launches, on March 9 exclusively on Switch and 3DS.

Flipping Death

Debuting for the first time during the Nindie Showcase was Flipping Death by Zoink, known for developing Stick it to The Man! of which Zoink says this game is very much a spiritual successor to. The game will task players to take the role of Penny, who accidentally ends up with the grim reaper's job and who can possess and control people in her fictional town of Flatwood Peaks. Flipping Death is due out this year on Switch and other unannounced platforms.

Graceful Explosion Machine

Nintendo touted three games that are using the Joy-Cons' HD Rumble feature. The first is Graceful Explosion Machine, an arcade shooter experience from developer VertexPop, that will let players feel the explosions they create by blasting away enemies with HD Rumble. It will release as a timed exclusive on Switch in April.

Mr. Shifty

Another timed exclusive coming in April is Mr. Shifty from developer Team Shifty and publisher tinyBuild. GameSpot called it a "more empowering version of Hotline Miami." The game will challenge players to complete heists, but they'll be able to use teleportation powers to get around traps and dodge bullets.

TumbleSeed: A Rolly Roguelike

TumbleSeed: A Rolly Roguelike features a procedurally generated mountain filled with holes and corrupted creatures that players will have to roll a seed through to reach the top of the mountain. It is out on Switch, PS4, and PC this spring.

Shakedown: Hawaii

Vblank Entertainment, the developers behind Retro City Rampage bring a game inspired by the shooters from 16-bit era to life with Shakedown: Hawaii. It will launch as a timed exclusive on Switch in April.

Pocket Rumble, Wargroove & Stardew Valley

The next group of games comes from publisher Chucklefish Games. The first is Pocket Rumble, a game that was funded by Kickstarter and developed by Cardboard Robot Games. It's a classic fighting game that can be played using many of the Switch's control methods including with just one Joy-Con for head-to-head fights in local multiplayer. The game is set to release this March.

The next game from Chucklefish debuted for the first time during the Nintendo Direct. It's called Wargroove, a turn-based strategy game for up to 4 players, in which each player takes control of an army and its commander unit to wage war on their enemies.

The final game is Stardew Valley, which will come to Nintendo Switch and will be the first platform to feature the game's new multiplayer mode. Stardew Valley is available now for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It will be released for the Switch this summer.
