Continuously topping the sales charts since its debut in March, the Nintendo Switch is one of the hottest video game consoles on the market today. Despite the system's popularity, however, Nintendo has struggled to keep up with demand, making the system a rarity on store shelves. Without a Nintendo Switch of his own, one Japanese boy decided to create a cardboard version of the console, but then his dad stepped in to surprise him with the real deal.

While his son was taking a bath, Twitter user Mohikan swapped his cardboard Nintendo Switch with the actual console, complete with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Mohikan documented his son's reaction to receiving the console on Twitter, and it looks like the surprise went off without a hitch.

Mohikan's Nintendo Switch surprise for his son is a heartwarming moment to be sure, and as Nintendo doubles Switch production throughout the rest of the year, we will likely see many more instances of happy kids finally getting their hands on the new console. This holiday season should be especially big for the Switch, as Nintendo is preparing to launch the console's biggest game since The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the WildSuper Mario Odyssey.

With a blockbuster release like Super Mario Odyssey on deck and Nintendo ramping up Switch production, it looks like the console will continue to sell well throughout the rest of the year. However, it's possible that a strong holiday lineup from Sony could help the PS4 outsell the Switch this holiday season, and the impending launch of Project Scorpio could also hurt Nintendo's home console/handheld hybrid system.

For now, though, the Nintendo Switch is one of the most popular consoles on the market, topping the sales charts in both March and April. As long as Nintendo continues to put out high quality exclusive software on a regular basis, there's no reason to think that its success can't continue.

Nintendo Switch is available now.
