After its official reveal event for the Nintendo Switch, a complete accessories list for the new console releases along side some higher than expected price points.
After teasing its fan base with a trailer for its new console last October, Nintendo finally pulled the curtain back on its newest console in a special reveal event. In addition to price points, a launch date, and various games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Nintendo finally gave viewers a high level overview of the Nintendo Switch. After the show, Nintendo revealed even more information, including higher than expected accessory prices.
While the $300 USD ($400 CAD) base console package includes two Joy-Con controllers (1 left and 1 right) and a docking station, fans are going to have to shell out some cash for additional sets and acessories. From its official website, Nintendo revealed that a left and right Joy-Con controller bundle pack starts at $79.99, while a left or right single controller retails for $49.99. It’s true the Joy-Con controllers are capable of a lot for such a small device – including IR motion and NFC reader – these prices rival and even exceed controller prices set by Sony and Microsoft.
In addition, the charging grip, which turns the Joy-Con controllers into a more traditional looking remote, comes in at $29.99. Fans looking for a more traditional controller can pick up a Pro style controller for $69.99 and a set of two Joy-Con racing wheels for $14.99. For an extra Nintendo Switch docking set, fans can expect to pay $89.99.
Last night’s event helped clarify a number of issues for fans including a base price of $300 USD, and a release date of March 3, 2017. From there, Nintendo delved into its unique Joy-Con controllers and showed off two games that rely heavily on them with 1-2 Switch and the odd looking fighter, Arms. Of course, Nintendo ended the night by showing off an impressive trailer for one of its launch titles, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Though the main show didn’t highlight too many games, Nintendo is holding another special event later today at its Treehouse offices to really show off its upcoming software lineup. Though nothing is officially set in stone, certain games revealed at the show will no doubt get some time on display including the summer title Splatoon 2, the remastered Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and the aforementioned Switch exclusive social titles, 1-2 Switch and Arms. Considering it’s a very important launch title for the Nintendo Switch, fans shouldn’t be surprised to see The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild get some time the spotlight as well.
