Anyone who's tried to get hold of a new GPU for PC upgrades has likely found themselves leaving with their tail between their legs. With the likes of Nvidia reintroducing older hardware back into the market to keep things moving, even PlayStation and Xbox fans can empathize with PC gamers who are also feeling the sting of not being able to get hold of hardware. On the other hand, Switch fans may have felt a bit of relief that their chosen system has not suffered from such low supplies. Until now.

Nintendo gamers may wish to keep an eye on supplies in the near future, as a recent report indicates that Switch stock could once again become low later this year. An interview with Nintendo CEO Shuntaro Furukawa reveals that while the company is able to meet the demand for consoles for the immediate future, all this could change and supplies may become limited.

The low supplies are likely to be caused by shortages of semiconductors, a key component that's employed in the manufacture of a variety of important electronic devices, including video game consoles. With news last month that supplies of the PS5 could be affected by the recent Suez Canal crisis, it's not looking promising for gamers no matter what system they play on.

However, it is worth reiterating that Nintendo does apparently have enough parts for immediate production. The company is just unsure about how it will cope in the future if supplies of semiconductors don't increase. Such demand for the Switch and other hardware is likely brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic in which billions of people around the globe have been confined to their homes, either through furlough schemes or job losses.

While this is only speculation at this stage, the fact that Nintendo's own CEO is showing concern about being able to meet Switch demand is likely to cause a bit of worry for those who are hoping to get hold of one. This also means that the Switch console will join both Sony and Microsoft in not being able to supply gamers with the consoles that are so clearly sought after. It isn't a good time to be a video game fan who's looking to get a new system, either console or PC. As it stands, many may have to make do with what they have at the moment, or simply wait until supplies become steady again. And no one really knows when that will be.
