The Nintendo has one of the most popular gaming devices available right now, with the Switch consistently boasting record-breaking sales. The appeal to the Nintendo Switch is partly in thanks to its first-party support, with titles like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and Mario Kart 8 continually topping the sales charts, but the indie games available on the Nintendo Switch can't be ignored.

This generation has brought forth the arrival of the Nintendo Indie World, a group that showcases Nintendo's many indie games with Indie World Showcases that highlight upcoming Switch indie games. Today, Nintendo Indie World debuted a video that reveals the Switch's top-selling indie games of 2020.

Quite of few of the games found on the list are games that received a ton of praise this year. SuperGiant Games' Hades was a huge contender for Game of the Year, winning such accolades as Best Indie game at this year's Game Awards, was of no surprise to the list as well as appearances by Ori and the Will of the Wisps and Spiritfarer as some of the list's most well-known games with great single-player experiences. Also on the list of best-sellers are multiplayer party games Moving Out and Streets of Rage 4, which give gamers a chance to unwind with their friends, albeit in two completely different formats.

This year has been quite the whirlwind with the COVID-19 pandemic throwing a curveball in the world's plans, causing many games like Elden Ring to face potential delays. Most folks have been forced to be at home much more often than before, so it makes sense that gaming sales have thrived despite new games trickling out at a bit of a slower pace. Jackbox Party Pack 7, which also made the list, is one of gaming's best ways to play with friends while continuing to maintain social distancing. One simply needs to stream their game and they are instantly connected to dozens of gamers looking to bide their time.

While there are no specific sales numbers available in the video, it certainly is nice to see such a wide variety of genres from roguelikes and Metroidvanias to point and click adventures like Kentucky Route Zero. With indie games like 2D platformer Hoa coming in 2021, fans can only speculate what might make the list next year.

There's no better time than ever to check out some of these great titles. The Nintendo Switch has games for fans of every genre to check out, and this list is but a mere sample of what fans should be looking out for.
