The official Twitter blog posted a look back at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, and what kind of presence the event had on its social networking platform. There was a lot for users to talk about, but according to the post, Nintendo dominated the Twitterverse, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is responsible.

During the week of E3 2018, Twitter reports nearly 15 million #E3 related Tweets that spanned the globe. The highest spike in E3 conversation happened during the Nintendo Direct press conference with 890K Tweets, after which @Nintendo became the most Tweeted topic, followed by @Xbox, and then #SuperSmashBros. Not surprisingly, the most Tweeted about newly-announced game was Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

There were more than a few big moments and surprises at the convention, with Elder Scrolls 6 officially being confirmed, the death of a beloved character coming to Destiny 2, and even a new console being announced by Microsoft. However, the biggest moment of E3 that generated the most conversation on Twitter was the release date for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, with the announcement that Ridley will be a playable character coming in at second.

Nintendo was the talk of Twitter during the convention, but now that the event is over, fans are anxious to see what the company will do next to keep the hype for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate going. The game is bringing back every single character from past Smash Bros. games, so the roster is already packed, but there is a chance Nintendo is planning to add more new characters in addition to Ridley.

One of the most popular rumors currently circulating is that Castlevania's Simon Belmont may join the game. This rumor holds weight because the Redditor and GameFAQs user who claims this will happen correctly predicted that Ice Climbers, Ridley, and all of the previous characters from the franchise would be present in Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Nintendo has yet to confirm this rumor, or even hint at the character's inclusion, but with the announcement that Ridley would be joining the roster, anything is possible. More information on new characters will likely be released in future Nintendo Directs as we arrive closer to the game's release date later this year.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is currently scheduled to release on December 7, 2018 for Nintendo Switch.
