The upcoming Gamescom arriving late this August is setting up to end summer with a host of new game announcements and previews. However, one big name from the industry doesn't appear to be preparing anything for the 2022 Gamescom event, even if the show is looking to draw in a larger crowd than previous expos.

In a recent statement, Nintendo has confirmed that it will not be making an appearance or any announcements during the Gamescom show in August. European fans can still rest assured that Nintendo will still have a presence at some of the other gaming events happening in the region, such as SWR Summer Festival and Stuttgart Children and Youth Festival. There is, however, no word from Nintendo on any future announcements at these conventions and showcases, leaving any possible news up for speculation.

This latest confirmation comes from German gaming outlet GamesWirtschaft, with Nintendo responding to a question regarding their plans for Gamescom for 2022. Nintendo does not appear to have given a reason for its absence during the Gamescom event either, even though there are several titles that many fans would be interested in seeing come August. The company will continue making appearances across Europe over the summer, however, so new announcements and opportunities for fans to get hands-on experiences with Nintendo's most anticipated titles aren't entirely out of the question.

Nintendo's E3 2011 Press Event

Some have speculated that Nintendo might instead have its own announcement planned around the time of the convention that will have a similar world-wide audience as Gamescom. Specifically, some fans are expecting a new Nintendo Direct, rather than an onstage appearance at Gamescom, similar to how Nintendo has been handling other conventions like E3 in previous years. This time-period at the end of summer is likely still going to be an important moment to set release dates and prepare for the Fall shopping season that follows not long after Gamescom.

For now, any future updates from Nintendo are simply up to speculation, and fans will have to wait until the company gives a more concrete answer on appearances happening during the normal summer season of announcements. With upcoming titles like Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, or the Breath of the Wild sequel, currently in development, there is currently a lot of fan anticipation around Nintendo. So, Nintendo pulling out of Gamescom is likely a calculated effort towards making sure that it isn't over-promising before any upcoming releases or announcements are ready to be put out into the public.
