Nintendo has a big year planned for its 3DS, and a ton of titles are scheduled to appear on the handheld later this year. Of course, there's no shortage of remakes on the portable, with the likes of Star Fox 64 3D, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, and Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D all currently available. The remake train apparently won't be slowing down anytime soon either, as it's now been reported that Nintendo is actually helping other companies revive games on the 3DS.

This report comes from Nikkei (translated by Andriasang) and it claims that there is currently "a plan from the company to revive other publisher's titles on the 3DS as part of a strategy to bring new strong titles to the system." The first title to spawn from this alleged game plan is none other than Sega's Seaman.

Fans may remember the original Seaman from its debut on the Sega Dreamcast back in 2000. The game was met with a lot of confusion, which shouldn't come as even a mild shock considering that it centered around conversing with and taking care of a talking fish with a man's head. Nonetheless, the game did fairly well, in Japan anyway, and it'll probably do well on the 3DS as well.

Unfortunately, Seaman has yet to been confirmed for release outside of Japan, and it may stay that way. It's entirely possible that the title may eventually swim over to North American shores at some point this year, but fans shouldn't hold their breath.

It's also not apparent just how Nintendo is helping other companies "revive" games on 3DS, either. Nintendo did previously mention that it plans on encouraging third-parties to develop on the hardware, but whether that means offering financial incentives or developer support remains unclear. Hopefully this is the first of many games to receive a reboot, because there are definitely a few more worthy games that would be perfect candidates for the Big N's new business plan.
