During a Pokemon Presents livestreamed presentation today from The Pokemon Company, there were several Poke-related reveals and probably the most surprising one for fans was the announcement of a prequel to Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl. Pokemon Legends: Arceus takes players back in time to the beginning of the Sinnoh region's creation. It's an open-world 3D Pokemon game that has trainers roaming around vast environments to collect data in order to create the first Pokedex for the fourth-generation region.

Something very interesting that was shown during the trailer for Pokemon Legends: Arceus was the ability to throw Poke Balls at wild Pokemon without going into a battle of any kind. Still, players can go into battle with their ally Pokemon and still partake in classic matches like other core Pokemon titles. This way, however, allows trainers to skip the fighting and get straight to one of Pokemon's well-known features: actually catching Pokemon.

And since Pokemon Legends: Arceus takes place many years before the Pokemon world that trainers know about now, Poke Balls are a bit different. The Poke Balls that trainers have been using since the first pair of Pokemon games (Red and Blue), use advanced technology and appear more like modern tools, but the Poke Balls used back then when Legends takes place, were made with mostly wood and had smoke coming out of the top to show that a Pokemon was successfully caught.

Shortly after the Pokemon Presents, Nintendo started to tweet out additional info about the newly announced Switch game which included an image of the old-school, wooden Poke Ball that players will be using in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. It'll be interesting to see if Game Freak introduces other new (old) types of Poke Balls that have never been seen before in mainline titles. Typically, most Pokemon games will at least have Poke Balls, Great Balls, and Ultra Balls, with each of them having different capture rates, with Ultra Balls having the highest chance of capturing a Pokemon.

Also announced during the Pokemon Presents was a remake of Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl, and they're both launching on the Nintendo Switch later this year, most likely the holiday season. The pair of remakes are titled Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and are currently being developed by ILCA, the same team that worked on Pokemon Home, which is a cloud-based application for Pokemon storage.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus will launch for the Nintendo Switch as an exclusive title in 2022.
