There are 893 Pokemon at the time of writing with no indication that Nintendo and the Pokemon Company intend to stop creating the beloved battling creatures. Animals, mythical creatures, deities, and even inanimate objects have inspired the creation of Pokemon. They come in all shapes and sizes and in one or two of 18 types.

Today, the focus will be on one specific quality in Pokemon: size. What is the largest Pokemon from each of the eight generations? This question will be answered by ranking the biggest Pokemon from each generation according to height against each other.

Pokemon DB was the primary resource used for this data.

8 White Kyurem (Generation V) – 11'10"

White Kyurem pokemon anime

Oddly enough, Generation V doesn't have any especially tall Pokemon, at least compared to other eras. Each other generation of Pokemon had several creatures taller or longer than White Kyurem. Generation V just doesn't seem to have that many large lads and lasses.

In any case, Kyurem, specifically White Kyurem, is the largest Pokemon of Generation V. For those who don't know, Kyruem is a Legendary Dragon and Ice-Type Pokemon that can fuse with two other Legendaries, namely Reshiram and Zekrom. White Kyurem is the form Kyurem takes when it fuses with Reshiram, a Dragon and Fire-Type Pokemon. In this form, Kyurem learns the special move known as Ice Burn. In fusing with Reshiram, Kyurem goes from 9 feet 10 inches (or 3 meters) to 11 feet 10 inches (or 3.6 meters).

7 Hoopa Unbound (Generation VI) – 21'4"

Hoopa Unbound Pokemon

Hoopa Unbound is the largest Pokemon from Generation VI, barely beating out Ylveltal by about two feet. Hoopa is a Legendary Pokemon that was first available through a special distribution event in Generation VI. It is a tiny Pokemon that can produce portals with the "hoops" it makes. It is known as the Djinn Pokemon and is Psychic and Ghost-Type in its base or "Confined" form.

However, when using the Prison Bottle item, Hoopa turns into its Unbound form and changes to a Psychic and Dark-Type Pokemon, and it increases in size by a significant amount. When going from Confined to Unbound form, Hoopa goes from 1 foot 8 inches (or 0.5 meters) to 21 feet 4 inches (or 6.5 meters)

6 Origin Form Giratina (Generation IV) – 22'2"

Origin Form Giratina pokemon

Generation IV comes up next with another transforming Pokemon in the Renegade Pokemon known as Giratina. It lives in the Distortion World and is the third in the Legendary Pokemon trio of this generation, the other two being Dialga and Palkia.

Giratina is a Dragon and Ghost-Type Pokemon and is only available in its Altered Form in Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl. However, in Pokemon Platinum, Giratina can be given the Griseous Orb item and transforms into its Origin Form, which is actually the mascot of that game entry. It becomes more serpentine in this form and is, coincidentally, the largest Pokemon of Generation IV. In transforming, Giratina goes from 14 feet 9 inches (or 4.5 meters) to 22 feet 2 inches (or 6.9 meters)

5 Celesteela (Generation VII) – 30'2"

Celesteela Pokemon

Several of the Ultra Beasts of Generation VII made it high up on the Pokemon DB size chart, but Celesteela beat them all out in terms of both size and weight. In fact, Celesteela is tied for the heaviest Pokemon of all with another Generation VII Pokemon, Cosmoem (who is also ironically tied for smallest with five other Pokemon in terms of height).

Celesteela is the Launch Pokemon is both Flying and Steel-Type. It's also known by the code name UB-04 Blaster. It could only be attained in Pokemon Moon and Pokemon Ultra Moon in Generation VII, needing to be traded to Sun and Ultra Sun. Celesteela comes in at 30 feet 2 inches, or 9.2 meters. For the curious, Celesteela weighs 2,204lbs or 999.9kg.

4 Mega Steelix (Generation II) – 34'5"

Mega Steelix Pokemon

Though technically a creation of Generation VI, Steelix first appeared in Generation II. Steelix is the Iron Snake Pokemon, and it evolves from Onix when it is traded to another game while holding the Metal Coat. Steelix is a Steel and Ground-Type and is actually used by Brock in the Pokemon anime.

Mega Evolution was a mechanic introduced in Generation VI (and was largely abandoned in later generations), and Steelix received a Mega form. When holding the Steelixite Mega Stone, Steelix can turn into Mega Steelix and increases in size from 30 feet 2 inches (or 9.2 meters) to 34 feet 5 inches (or 10.5 meters).

3 Alolan Exeggutor (Generation I) – 35'9"

Alolan Exeggutor Pokemon

Exeggutor was introduced with Generation I of Pokemon, but the Alolan Form was introduced with Generation VII. This puts Alolan Exeggutor in an awkward spot, but, since Exeggutor is still a Generation I Pokemon, Alolan Exeggutor becomes the largest Generation I Pokemon out there.

Exeggutor in both forms evolves from the Pokemon known as Exeggcute, which is a Grass and Psychic-Type that looks identical in both Kanto and Alola. In its Kanto form, Exeggutor is a Grass and Psychic-Type Pokemon, but its Alolan relative is Grass and Dragon-Type. In Kanto, Exeggutor is only 6 feet 7 inches (or 2 meters). However, in Alola Exeggutor reaches 35 feet 9 inches (or 10.9 meters).

2 Wailord (Generation III) – 47'7"

Wailord Pokemon

Longtime fans saw this one coming, as Wailord was the largest Pokemon in existence for years after Generation III. It's a solo Water-Type Pokemon based on the largest creatures on Earth, so it makes sense that it would be one of the largest Pokemon. It lasted as the largest Pokemon until the newest generation.

Wailord evolves from Wailmer at level 40 and comes in at a whopping 47 feet 7 inches, or 14.5 meters.

1 Eternatus (Generation VIII) – 65'7"

Eternatus Pokemon

Finally, there is the largest Pokemon and one of the heaviest to boot, Eternatus. Eternatus is a Legendary Dragon and Poison-Type Pokemon from Generation VIII and is sort of the main antagonist Pokemon of Sword and Shield. Appropriately, Eternatus is known as the Gigantic Pokemon and has an alternate form called Eternamax Eternatus where it resembles a giant hand. Unfortunately, players can't obtain Eternatus in that form.

Eternatus comes in at 65 feet 7 inches or 20 meters. For the curious, it also weighs 2,094lbs or 950kg.
