In Paper Mario: The Origami King, King Olly has turned many of Mario's friends and former foes into origami, having them either do his bidding or make the world more "beautiful." Olly's villainous folding of the many residents of Toad Town and Bowser's crew forces his sister Olivia to try to stop him with the help of Mario.

Olly doesn't appear very frequently in the game, but his rampage is left behind. Whether it's not-bottomless holes or folded-up Toads, Olly's leaves a trail of destruction that Mario and Olivia must follow in order to defeat him. But what more is there to learn about Olly? Here are 10 things you may not know about him.

10 Origins

King Olly was created by the Origami Craftsman, who lives on an island in the middle of the Great Sea. The craftsman was making the king for a model that was set to be on display during the Origami Festival. While creating the king, the craftsman decided to use the forbidden "Fold Of Life" technique, which allowed King Olly to gain sentience.

When finished, the craftsman scribbled a note on Olly that he couldn't read. Olly grew enraged that his body was marked on with "scribbles."

9 Hatred Of Toads

Because of the "heinous act" committed by the craftsman, King Olly grew an unhealthy obsession and hatred with Toads. In his eyes, he believed that they all looked the same and that they needed to be made into something different. He would go on to kidnap and craft toads into new creatures and objects, such as flowers and bugs.

This becomes a major mechanics of the game, with Mario needing to rescue as many Toads as he can come across, regardless of how blended into the environment they were.

8 The Creation Of Olivia

Once King Olly started setting the motion for his master plan, he needed an ally by his side to help execute it. He decided to take up origami himself and create Olivia, who he thought would go along with the plan. However, Olivia refused to take part in his actions and even began to try to stop him.

When the pair got to Princess Peach's castle, Olly decided to trap Olivia in the walls of the dungeons that lie beneath the castle. This is where Mario would later find Olivia, and the pair would set off on an adventure to stop the king.

7 The Strained Relationship

After her betrayal, Olly becomes frustrated by Olivia, making her seem useless to him moving forward. He even goes as far as to crush her under a boulder, hoping that she would be killed and that he didn't have to worry about her stopping him anymore.

Olivia, however, has more ambivalent feelings for her brother. She loves him dearly, but she also wants him to stop hurting people. Despite Olivia's many tries to reason with Olly throughout his mission, he refuses to change his mind until she physically stops him.

6 His True Feelings

Despite his outward hatred for his sister after she decided not to be beside him, Olly seems to still hold some form of hope or love in his heart that Olivia openly has for him. This is shown by the structures inside his origami castle. Throughout the castle, there are multiple statues of him and Olivia standing side-by-side.

In the throne room, there are two thrones that sit on the far end of the room. Similar to the castle model, Olly and Olivia each have their own throne. This means, despite constantly dismissing her, Olly still holds out hope Olivia changes her mind.

5 Different Forms

King Olly spends most of the game turning other things into origami, but he also has the ability to turn himself into other things as well. When Mario first meets King Olly, the villain is posing as an origami yellow shy guy. But that is probably the less interesting transformation King Olly goes through.

Like his sister, Olly can change into any of the Vellumentals and also has the ability to increase in size. His final form uses the 1,000-fold arm technique while he towers over Mario. His power goes beyond just crafting beings around him.

4 His Army Is Massive

Throughout the game, every enemy Mario and Olivia deal with was created by Olly. Early on, our heroes just have to deal with simple origami creatures like Goombas. However, this evolves in later parts of the game as players are introduced to Paper Macho characters and various tools that are used for origami, such as scissors and colored pencils.

King Olly even adapted to specific situations, such as crafting a paper plane squadron that went after Bowser's airship while the gang was making their way to the castle.

3 His Seal Is Everywhere

King Olly wants people to know that he is the reason behind the sentient crafting tools and paper mache creatures. While taking on some of the major bosses in the game, players may discover that King Olly's face is printed on their body somewhere.

For the Paper Macho mini-bosses, they are strapped to a sensitive part of their body. The sticker has power too as the moment it is removed, the Paper Macho creatures fall apart. Each of the origami-making tools Mario faces also has King Olly's face inscribed into a part of them.

2 Peach's Purpose To Him

Princess Peach is introduced early in the game in her origami form, which is assumed to be what King Olly has turned her into. Olly uses her early as a recruiter and as a bait for the origami army. However, the princess outlasts her usefulness after the castle officially transforms into Olly's new home.

From there, everything in the castle has been refolded into something new, including Princess Peach, who became a circle top window that hangs over the throne.

1 His Ultimate Goal

Throughout most of the game, Mario and Olivia have a rather vague understanding as to why Olly is doing all of this. For the most part, players know that Olly wants to rule over the Mushroom Kingdom and make everything origami in order for the world to be "beautiful" like him.

Players later learn that although this is part of his mission, his true goal is to rid the world of Toads. He begins the also-forbidden Thousand Cranes technique, which upon completion grants him one wish.
