For fans of Nintendo, it may feel like a bit of a drought in terms of fresh AAA games over the past few months. That could change soon, as Nintendo has just revealed that many new titles are on the way for the Nintendo Switch.

2020 was a big year for Nintendo. The biggest story was the success of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, as the social simulator sold over 31 million units in just a year; a phenomenal and unheard-of number in just one year for any title let alone a game that is only available on one platform. The new mainline Nintendo titles have died down a bit, but a recent Q&A surrounding Nintendo's fiscal year results have shown that plenty are incoming.

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa, who recently shared his vision of Nintendo being all about "fun," said that the player usage of the Nintendo Switch ebbed and flowed over 2020 and into 2021 with the success of Animal Crossing: New Horizons--and then again with the release of Monster Hunter Rise. Furukawa said that he does not think that the Switch's momentum is fading, and the team is continuing to take advantage of that.

According to Furukawa, Nintendo will release "many new software titles" this fiscal year, which runs until March 2022, starting this first quarter. One of those first-quarter upcoming Nintendo games will be Mario Golf: Super Rush, which many Nintendo fans are anticipating. But beyond that, a lot of the titles are a mystery.

Furukawa says that the games that will be released during the first quarter of the fiscal year and throughout the remainder of the period will continue to expand on the range of the consumers who play on the Switch. Nintendo's newly announced Game Builder Garage is another great example of this. A far cry from a typical action-adventure or first-person shooter that a competitor may release, Game Builder Garage allows players to design video games, which could bring in totally new players to the Switch.

As far as what other games may be in store for the remainder of the fiscal year, the list is really endless. The sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a possibility, as is Splatoon 3 (which is supposed to launch in 2022), Pokemon Legends: Arceus (scheduled for early 2022), Metroid Prime 4 (which currently does not have a release date), or something else or even Nintendo making something entirely new. The good news is that Nintendo has a lot planned, and fans will hopefully find out soon, perhaps even during E3 2021.
