Nintendo is a unique sort of company. Sony and Microsoft have their big-name icons, but they're mostly known for having a wide variety of games, characters, and franchises. Nintendo also has a ton, but more so than anyone else, they have a well-known cast of characters for each franchise that they reuse often.

Things like the Mario cast, the Zelda cast, and all 9 billion Pokémon. And, throughout the years they almost always come up with new likable inclusions. Still, they can pop out a stinker every now and again. We're here to talk about the most polarizing, meme-able, or just straight-up disliked Nintendo characters of all time.

10 Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time - Navi The Fairy

We'll just start with the most well-known and obvious one, Navi. Navi is the fairy assigned to Link by the Great Deku Tree in Ocarina of Time. She's meant to help the Hero of Time on his journey and give him all the info he needs. Basically, she's a tutorial that trails behind you at all times. And, the most common phrase she says before interrupting the gameplay is the classic "Hey! Listen!" we all hear in our nightmares. It doesn't help that this is one of the only lines of dialogue actually voiced in the game, so it stuck out even more because of it.

9 Animal Crossing - Mr. Resetti The Mole

Mr. Resetti is probably not a very "hated" character, but more of a "groan whenever he shows up" type. This mole pops up in every Animal Crossing game whenever the play resets the console without saving. On their next start-up, he'll pop up out of the ground and give the player a lecture on the importance of saving. What he does or how much he freaks out differs every time and players can keep resetting to escalate his freakout. Still, while it is a charming gimmick, it does take forever to get through, so people don't hold him in the highest regard. Personally, we love him, but we always remember to save.

8 Legend Of Zelda Series - Tingle

Tingle is quite the polarizing little freakazoid. He's another "interesting" Zelda character who has appeared numerous times over the years in multiple LoZ Titles. His first appearance was in the N64 Title LoZ: Majora's Mask as a map salesman and that's commonly the role he has in most of his other appearances.

People dislike Tingle purely based on his oddity, which is sort of fair. He's a middle-aged man with odd proportions who is wearing a much-too-revealing skin-tight suit and red underwear. So, we get it. Tingle is a favorite of ours personally, but we understand that we're absolutely in the minority for this. Plus, he's a ton of fun in Hyrule Warriors.

7 Star Fox Adventures - Prince Tricky

Do you know what sounds like a ton of fun? An Escort mission that spans the entire game. It's a miracle that Resident Evil 4 is as good of a game as it is, considering that escorting Ashley is a pain. But, nothing is more annoying to us personally that dealing with Tricky the Triceritiops in Star Fox Adventures. Nevermind that this game is in no way the Starfox 64 sequel that everyone wanted at the time, Tricky is just an awful character. He's annoying, his AI doesn't work have the time, his motivations are all over the place, and we feel like we're babysitting him the entire game. And, most other fans agree. Even Slippy the Frog is more beloved than him.

6 Yoshi's Island - Baby Mario

The Yoshi's Island games are some truly amazing platformers. Their artstyle is so memorable, the gameplay itself is a blast, and the mechanics were improved upon with every new release. But, many people disliked these games. Why is that? Well, it's thanks to Baby Mario. Every time you'd get hit in Yoshi's Island, the Baby Mario on your back would get knocked off into a bubble where he would cry at MAX VOLUME until you picked him back up. And, with how often you can get hit in that game, it might end up that 30-50% of your playtime is filled with the screaming cry of a baby. And that's just no good.

5 Duck Hunt - Duck Hunt Dog

Ah, the original troll. The Duck Hunt Dog is the founder of laughing at the misfortune of others, at least in our brains. Duck Hunt was one of the first games many people ever played. But, no matter how good you were at it, even if you only missed 1 duck out of a 100, this stupid dog would pop up out of the bushes with his blood-boilingly huge smile and laugh at you.

It was just so frustrating as a kid! Now, in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, we love the little pup. But, people will always hold this sort of passive annoyance whenever they look at him for the rest of time.

4 Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword - Fi The Goddess Sword

There are a lot of Zelda inclusions on this list, but to be fair, there are so many Zelda games! And, while most of them integrate their tutorials quite well, there is also a good amount that forces the player into listening to hints and tips that they're quite clearly very familiar with. Fi from Skyward Sword is another example of that, taking the annoyance of Navi to a whole new level. Instead of having any sort of personality, Fi is emotionless. It's like if the Paper Clip from old versions of Microsoft Word became a Zelda Character. Fi pops up way too often, forces repetitive information down your throat, and has a dumb percentage gimmick that is never charming or funny.

3 Animal Crossing - Tom Nook

Here's the thing, people hate Tom Nook. Why? Because this little Tankuki/Racoon coerces you into taking on a house's worth of debt the first day you arrive into town. And yeah, that's a bit scummy. Tom Nook is an entrepreneur, and he's good at it.

But, remember this, Tom Nook gave you a house at 0% interest with no paperwork, credit check, deposits, or background checks. He gave you a spot in a nice part of town with a free move-in service. Tom Nook is nice as far as realtors go. But, as a kid, none of us understood that and ended up hating him anyway, which is such a shame.

2 Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild - Rivali The Rito Champion

Alright alright, this is the absolute last Zelda rep we promise. But come on! Rivali is just such a chump. He's one of the Four Champions in Breath of The Wild, the worldwide beloved most recent Zelda game. And, particularly, he's the one for Divine Beast Vah Medoh. Nintendo attempted to force some sort of "rivalry" between this Rito punk and the Hero of Time, but it never felt like it. What it more accurately felt like was some bird spouting insults at us while Link remained quiet and calm. We get what they were going for, but typically you make the character at least a bit likable, and we just didn't think he was.

1 Pokémon X & Y - Shauna, Trevor, And Tierno

Lastly, we've finally got a Pokémon rep. It's a big franchise, people love these little monsters, even dressing up as them is a common occurrence! Honestly more of the rivals could've made this list, except for the fact that they were all pretty interesting or likable as well as rude. But, the funny thing is, the cast of overly-nice kiddos in Pokémon X & Y were too nice. This trio of small-town trainers were "supposed" to be our competition throughout the adventure, but, we forgot about them as soon as we left Vaniville town. We also felt Hop almost qualified for this list, but the down-on-his-luck trainer is part of a game that released too recently.
